I thought I'd try to pick the collective mind of foro on the issue of the earthquake in Chile and fund raising efforts. However, there doesn't seem to be much of a collective any more.
My issue is both an ethical and practical one:
Do the people of chile need outside help? Is the country able to recover on its own? Is the government and its resources able to meet the challenges of rebuilding? Are the people of chile themselves (those who were largely unaffected and have the means to do so) contributing?
Or should our charitable endeavours and donations focus on the much more desperate situation in Haiti?
Should I put my efforts and resources into helping haiti or chile? Given that for every dollar raised for chile might mean a dollar less for haiti.
