Me bitter no I don't think so. I just didn't get your comment that's all. You call that being sarcastic didn't sound sarcastic to me hun. You say I need to pay more attention... well I say that you need more lessons in being sarcastic, because you suck at it. If you read my last post carefully and slowly you will see that I asked you to explain what you ment by this comment. So now I know that you have bad taste in jokes I will leave you alone. Frankly I don't find jokes of that sort funny I find them rude and offensive. Anyway you keep on telling your bad jokes.

The only way to get along in a society such as the one that we all share here, is through improvement and hard work, (but we all know that) in spite of all the discrimination and stereotyping that has been so common towards inmigrants of all nationalities.

I have to agree with some of you that prejudice exists even within our own community, but hey, you can not be blamed for having a certain level of pride about your birthplace. Anyway, if we only could look at each other and try to find common ground to feel proud about of who we are regardless of nationality, I think life will be a little bit better for all of us Latin Americans.

I feel proud of being hispanic, and every time I get the chance to show how much that means to me, I do it with pride, dignity and my head way up.

Be proud of who you are !!

C, with all due respect, there's no way you can have the words "smelly pakis" and "with all due respect" in the same sentence. That being said, no matter how hard we try, there's no way we can escape being prejudicial, it's the human condition of self preservation. You notice how you tense up when you walk by a scruffy person as opposed to a man in a suit? and it doesn't mean one is a better person than the other (in fact, if the dude in the suit is a lawyer... my money would defenitely be on the scruffy guy ) and that happens with skin color, nationalities, hair color, the type of job you have, status in society, etc. etc.. It's just preconceptions that we acquire based on experiences and who knows what else. We can't help it! but it would probably be a good thing if we try to fight it, since we are probably being prejudged ourselves based on our background a lot of the time

I wonder is this why they make immigrants who are at a university level go back and do high school all over again? They say it's because in our countries we are not at the same level as they are here. I think that in our countries we are ahead of them by at least one year. I find the school work from back home harder then the school work from here. There's always someone trying to pull you down when they see that you are doing better then them. Nothing but jelousy. It's sad to see how cruel people can be.

You're right. I've seen this happen too, and it's just so easy for someone to say, "Oh, they yelled at me because i'm latino," whereas maybe they were not doing such a good job after all. Sadly I have witnessed this sort of abuse towards immigrants far too often. Many times one hears someone speaking with an accent and automatically relates that to some sort of deficency in intellegence. The life of an immigrant worker is soooo difficult and i truly believe they deserve our respect for more often than not they come to this country to work at jobs which they far too qualified for but have little choice. It is so sad that this is even an issue in a country that so celebrates its multiculturalism..

I agree on this with all of you. Most of immigrants, newly comers, with accents (more or less) have accomplished way more than born Canadians. I am proud to speak 2 languages fluently and learning 3rd one. Accent just ads flavor in may opinion.

It’s sad and pathetic they way true Canadians (no accent and all) feel superior over immigrants. When in fact they are the ones less educated and close-minded. Canada is such a diverse country (especially Toronto). This kind of behavior is everywhere. You should see how they react in British Columbia in smaller cities. B.C. is beautiful and lovely life style and people, but immigrants there stand out even more. Because there is less of them and harder to blend in.

Los canadians quieren que uno hable bien pero ellos ni nuestros nombres puden mencionar bien hasta se les traba la lengua cuando dise el nombre de uno, and I hate that that's why I always repeat my name and tell them how 2 say it, so if they have probs with a simple name they should understand that we have manage and mostly master the lenguage and we should get credit 4 that and not bull sh**.....

It's so sad, but discrimination is still rampant in our society... I like the fact that more people are voicing and answering back when we're feeling discriminated against, like you did, because a few years ago we'd just be silent and wouldn't say anything for fear of recrimination. We should all do that. Racist people are just ignorant and they may be able to learn that what they're doing is wrong... or they might not learn anything, but at least we don't keep the resentment bottled up inside.

Well this guy (my server) was trying to make a living.....He problably has kids to feed at home.....and His boss was Yelling at him ....because he wasn't able to communicate properly...his boss was Canadian....

So I had a talk with his boss ....It boils my blood when people do that when pople Bullies immigrants . No matter our skin color, background or accent we deserve respect......I'm an Immigrant as many of us and not because we have an accent that means we are unable to have a nice living....
