TOPIC: DISCIPLINING CHILDREN 101: Ideas and Experiences
Were you disciplined physically as a kid with things such as "correas", "chancletas", "latigos", "palo de la escoba", "beta" or anything like that? [15 vote(s)]
I"m a big believer that nothing works better then a few shots in the A$$ when needed (or with anything else). I barely got my shots when I was a kid but when I did.....let me tell you I never did it again, it was not worth the pain.
All this American ways of disciplince is what makes our youth so bad beahved & rude. The idea that if you hit ur kids it's child abuse is the BIGGEST PIECE CR_P I've EVER HEARD!!! Abuse or no abuse if any of my kids ever dis-behave thier getting it & poor them if they ever call child service, they minus well leave my house cause they'll never forget it.

My parent's are the main reason I'm so disciplined in my music. I'm happy now that they gave me the beatdowns I deserved. Chancletas in the a$$ sure worked for me!!

I GOT HIT UNTIL I WAS 12. I DID ALL THE HITTING. TRUST ME IT WORKS. KIDS GET BIGGER AND THEY DONT FORGET SOME DONT FORGIVE. NOW ANYTIME ANY ONE TOUCHES ME. LET ME TELL YOU. I WARN PEOPLE NOT TO PLAY WITH ME LIKE THAT. DONT HIT YOUR KIDS IT DOESNT WORK!

I agree with you, HOWEVER, sometimes, if not most of the times in some cases, una buena nalgada is what a kid needs.
Like for example.. have you ever seen those kids in the malls/stores that throw tantrums right in front of everyone? Ummm, for being the oldest and the only girl I had everything from el palo se la escoba to la correa to la chancleta to whatever was in eyes sight ... but I learned once a cried it all stopped osea they didn't even touch me and I had cried a RIVER .... But I love my parents and that's how they raised me and I am A OK ... Now, will I raise my kids one day like that NOOOOOOO .... Now, my question to you is, did you ever tell your dad what REALLY happened? How many years after the fact? And whatever you do, don't tell that story to your own son until he's out of the house, 'cause one thing's for sure: if you do, he'll use the story against you... and in a much bigger way... Kids are smart that way...

MY WORSE BEATING: The most physical beating I ever got was from my dad - it was the one and only time he ever gave me physical discipline. He never ever had raised his hand at me physically before nor did he after this one… Well, I had done several things that built up over time and I guess it got to the point where I was about 13/14 and I just was a lil too much… I got a good lecture first and at some point I said something disrespectful – NOT smart with a latino parent. lol ok i was young and well did many uncalled for things but the worst beating i got was for going fist to fist with my brother at home and giving him a black eye and bitting him so hard that he had the mark for a week! LOL he deserved it but did i get it bad!! what a cry baby hes such a momas boy!! lmao
and another time for trying to break my arm or leg just so i could get a cast cuz i thought it was so cool!!

My worst mmmmmmmm let see, O yea, my worst was when I was 6 or 7, I took a knife and I put it in the lumbre, when it was red I put it on my sisters chest. My sister was burning and she was crying quietly, when my mom came from work she ask what was going on, mym sister didn't want to say anything but when my mom so her chest and how burned it was she told my dad, and my dad gave me so much that I pee myself.
My dad was the "lecture" type of parent that would talk to you till your ears turned blue... yap, yap, yap for literally at least an hour... giving advice, sharing how his dad was with him, how kids of today are in comparison to before, etc, etc... Sometimes I would just have preffered a few good correasos and done with it!... LMAO but he did eventually gave me a really good one - just one!

eventually i got a little older and it almost became a game of cat and mouse avoiding mom or dad as they chased you trying to get you, LOL.. it stopped hurting and now that i think about it i laugh

I was so afraid that i couldn't even move,.. pero despues escribia una carta y le pedia disculpas,.. porque no podia decircelo verbalmente,.. y hasta ahora ,..prefiero escribir antes que hablar,.. ,..

LOL, this is so true, Once my sister and I did something wrong and my grandma was after us, we hide under the bed, my grandma was old so we thought we were safe, My grandma took la escoba and she started to pock us with el palo de la escoba, that was really bad.
So in oder words when you run or hide is worst LOL.

Despues de unos 5 minutos me dice que "es mejor que salgas ahora porque necesito usar el baño - si no habres luego te va peor" ... le hize prometer que no me hiba a castigar antes de habrir la puerta del baño (smart move, huh?) y bueno apenas abri la puerta me agarro y me dio con la correa... now looking back I laugh, but at the time I was sh!tting my pants!

MY dad only used his Hand but that was enough to make me cry LOL, I remember I use to start crying before the first one that way I only got one or two.
My sister got like 10 becasue she wouldn't cry. LOL she was so stupid
My mom she was more about lectures and the same as every latin mom, con La Mirada she would let us know we were going to get it LOL

@ Confesiones: I agree with you, that you should NEVER hit a child so hard that you leave bruises like that. There is a line between discipline and abuse... I DO agree with discipline, I DONT agree with abuse.

Torture my children like that!! Hell no!! spank him once in a while WHEN HE DESERVES IT…yes!! And I’d definitely cut down the PS-3…lol no I’m against it, discipline can be done in other simple ways….: cut downs: Money, the shopping, the ps-3, the Nintendo, the car, the tv, the computer, THE FORO!! lol
if the teacher finds any…ANY Bruces or marks in your child,.. hun! You are in trouble!! you’ll have children’s aid on your back!!
As a kid, I was disciplined mostly through "lectures" – being told over and over how to behave properly and what is expected and accepted as proper behaviour. From time to time, when I crossed the line too much or when I was just too much to handle, I did get un chancletazo or un latigazo con una "beta" (bara echa dura de material de cuero); but it was never too hard to leave me marks or anything like that – just enough to know better for next time. Another way I got disciplined was through "fear" – just to be told something like "vuelves a hacer eso UNA sola vez mas y vas a ver!!!" was enough for me to stop – usually!

So yeah, most of us come from the Cultura Latina and have been raised by padres latinos – some of us may have been raised here (Canada) and some of us may have been raised back en nuestros paises. Many of us may have never been disciplined physically or maybe not even verbally while some of us may have recibido unas buenas correadas, latigazos, chancletasos – que se yo pegados hasta con el palo de la escoba if not worse.
What do you all think about Disciplining Children? For those of you that do have kids – how do you discipline them? As a kid how were you disciplined? How much is too much? Give your two cents and exchange experiences and ideas.
