well... life is life...and unless we are all millionaires or something, unfortunately we gotta work. After living and working on a contract in Santiago Chile for the last few months i've come to realize how awsome it is to work and live in the GTA. Do what i did, and soon you'll see what I mean, we got it good in Canada-you don't gotta 'look over your back' so much, even when going about the simplest things throughout a day - ex: getting money from the atm, taking the bus, being aware of your wallet in your pants, your purse  -   ahh yes, the stuff that happens in the office, people smoke like chimenys inside the office, people stab you in the back, people talk about other people in front of you   -   the mariconasos are insane here  -   while working i listen to edge102 online and miss the hell outta T.O, I even missed the snow!  -  lol-  yeah right, thats probably the only thing i can do without. So 'Is this the place to live?' por supuesto it is... the GTA is amazing and i can't wait to get back to life there.  But if i was to choose 1 place in the world to go a have a great time, vacationwise, it would definetly be CHILE!!!! C-H-I   CHI!     L-E      LE!     CHI CHI CHI!! LE LE LE!! VIVA CHILE!

Yeah, maybe the moral and value system of North America may not be the best that we should expose our children to, but I do believe 100% that we teach our children values and morals at home, and that's what they take with them through life. I was taught to be the way I am from a very, very early age (that's why they say that the first two years of a child's life are the most important, because those are the formative years, and they learn what they'll become for the rest of their lives) and I firmly believe in that.
My sister is like you, she raised her children here and she's always saying "if you'd grown up back home, you'd be so different. Life was always better back there." (And her children are great, nevertheless.) I think that's wrong. People and the lifestyle have changed back there too. The morals and values have also changed in Latin America. We don't see it because we're here. And as for morals and values, I think is mainly our responsibility as parents of Latin origin to teach and form our children the way we want them to be.

I just got back to Toronto not long ago to put our house for sale and to pick up the rest of my stuff I have been packing away like a maniac. I am due for a job interview in may with a US company but there are a lot of opportunities in Florida and real estate in booming as well as the construction industry.

I am working on my new project still, although taking my time to make sure it comes out right you know these things can be complicated. Once it is ready I have to push it a much as I can. But like I said I am in no rush.

I must say I agree with you out of here is where is at this city SUCKS big time . Demasiado envidia y separatismo en nuestra comunidad y el mismo circulo de idiotas en la radio, los periodicos y la television explotando a los demas. For all that I can say they can kiss my big ...

Florida is the paradise so pick and get the hell out of T.O. Canada has nothing to offer for me but high taxes and snow.

Chilena,

I moved to the South Florida about a year ago  and I'm happy for it. I got sick of the life in Canada. Tired of the lame-ass political refugees LATINOs,  The weather promising to get better and never does, the lack of representation in the media, CARLOS CUEVAs and his lackeys, TLN,  the chessy Do** Bands, the having to jet from clubs cause a fight has broken out or weather.  the same people and the scene in the clubs. Nunca ver un alma latina pero en los clubs.

Down here I feel so relaxed, accepted, and appreciated for speaking english, like a Canadian, Americans never test you and yet they love you and believe Canada is the promised land. Work is here and available  if you look and act decent (and not develop an addiction) . The weather is always promised paradise. The pace is relaxed. LATINOs rule  tv, radio etc. You can meet your people in every situation of daily life strike up a conversation, laundry, at the park, beach, grocery store, club, gym, you name it.

Every day I walk out with no need to pack on the layers, don't even think of it, just throw on some shorts, the shades, the shirt, and I'm out. Gas is cheap. and prices are very low (TARGET rules), can save on a modest income, and as long as the sun shines all is paradise.

I had a career in Toronto, 45K/year, in IT. Left if for some life, slower-pace, beach, sun, peace, and mi gente.

My only regret is that I didn't make the move sooner. And bring along friends from TO.

Que piensas...

ps. Relaxing on Key Biscayne Beach, next to the cars, I heard a cuban playing the sweetest sound to my ears to today, love it, te felicito son tu gente: GONDWANA!

MMMMMM.

    Chilenita, that's a good question.

Well, I was laid off as a lab. chemist last  year and offered a new job as an operator (making more money) but working days and nights (rotating shift).  I accepted this job because I did'nt know it would suck this much.  E.g: I haven't slept for about 17.5 hours since yesterday. SO yesterday I asked my boss if I could be let go again so I can find another job (money is not everything I've been telling myself), He said He'll ask the office about it ( at least He wasn't upset).  So in a moment like this I wish I was drinking coconut water infront of the blue sea somewhere in Latin America.  Reality is I have to pay my share of the house's mortgage; nevertheless, I'll continue insisting in looking for another job; because' as I said :money is not everything. I hope I get another job as soon as possible.  Summer is almost here and I need to go fishing weekends, and playing pool at nigth every weekend.

Hey, that sounds pretty cool... I always thought that the further away you moved from the big cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver) the less hispanics you would see. I totally forgot about farms and mexicans... and they own restaurants in town, you say? That sounds pretty cool. I went to Lindsay once on my way to a cottage, and we went into a small restaurant. I kid you not, people looked at us like we were extraterrestrials. And there were these two men talking about guns... the whole conversation was about guns (apparently they all owned one). My point is that I thought all small towns were very whitey... thanks for sharing that...

Chile, how come you don't know the family next door? I know most of my neighbours, and I've only lived in mine for about a year and a half... just pop over with some pisco and start getting to know them... On the other hand, my neighbours back home knew a little bit too much about my family... no secrets back there...

@ TV Buff: - I totally agree with you on the great pros of living here and the fact that they do outweight the cons - mainly when it comes to financial seurity and personal safety.  The main big cons I find is the morals and value system of north america and the fact that kids get exposed to things like drugs and sex much earlier than from what I remember in south america.

@ Chilenita: If you can save enough for two and take me with you!  If you can save enough for more, take the rest of el Foro with you!

I also think the best way to make it in south america (as almost anywhere) is to have your own business.  As a labourer you can hardly make ends meet, but with a business, you can do so much better.

Totally agree Dr.J!  Money is nice and you need it to live but it's not everything.

I am going to make this South America thing happen and I hope it all turns out......it's worth a try....

i've passed a couple of promotions because of this. (I work to live, not the other way around)

at some point you have to stop and think if the extra money you'll be getting is worth more than the time you'll be giving up....and to me, at this point in my life, it isn't. I'd much rather spend my extra time with my girlfriend and my family

@BUFFY...yeah I was born and raised here but I did the whole live in South America thing for a bit and loved it....mind you with money from here.  I really feel like taking my savings and making some more money over the next couple of years and investing it in South America....buy some property and go live there.  I like the pace, values and just like canada it has it's pros and cons but the PROS are better.....if it does not work I'll just sell everything and come back....canada isn't going anywhwere.....

This is a very good question, Chile, but you were born here. For those of us who immigrated to Canada, the answer will obviously be yes. True, the weather sucks, we had to learn a new language, life may be too fast-paced, the routine may drive you nuts at times-- you go to work, home, tv, groceries, etc, etc. But I would never change the safety and security and the fact that there's a future for me and my family here, and that I know I won't make some money only to be robbed and killed for it on the streets back home.

Being there, I loved the fact that any given weekend I could go to the beach, and the weather was always great; people partied and in general people are really happy, but I could never change all that for how safe and secure I feel here, and for the fact that if I work hard, I will accomplish something here. If I work hard, I can always go somewhere to charge my batteries for a couple of weeks also. I know we idealize life in Latin America, but that's because most of the people who are born here, only go there for a couple of weeks to visit. Trust me, it's really hard, and anybody who's lived there will tell you that. So enjoy what you have here.

Yes you're right find the life here very hard........ Work ..Home ..Work Home..If you want to do somethign else you need to make a HUGE effort....I guess it's the North American Life Style.....

On My case I spend almost 3 hrs commuting..... I leave my house around 4:30 am and I get home 9:30........thats why weekends I just want to Relax....

I totally agree with you Chile, time flies here in Toronto (as in any big city), long conmutes and daily chores can reduce your 'time to yourself' .... we should have 3 day weekends!!!
