I do NEED to say one thing though I am ANYTHING but "NAIVE" just because I don't agree with you on Toronto's homeless situation does not mean I am "NAIVE" .....I JUST DON'T AGREE WITH YOU! I am the last person that follows what the "media" has to say as I know it is bullsh!t most of the time. I am an active member of the coalition to help the homeless and so my opionion is not a "naive" one just DIFFERENT FROM YOURS.

@ Carlos.....I've heard really good things about this COSTI service & apparently they are extreamly helpful & caring towards new comers or latinos with immigration problems.

Another thing, most (maybe all) homeless you see on the street are there because they don't wanna follow the shelter's basic rules and prefer to be drunk and high. Don't be naive, don't believe everything the media wants you to believe. Anyways, I'll have to drop it right here. Chilenita, I have been involved in the community more than you think. I've helped the new radio Voces Latinas, I helped a lot of people with information, I helped organize fundraisers for the community, etc. I won't tell you what and when specifically because, like you, I want to keep my identity anonymous.

I'm not trying to put the Centro para Gente de Habla Hispana down or talk bad about them. I'm just trying to let you know about some problems with that institution that obviously your passionate eye won't let you see. and like TV Buff said, I wouldn't be promoting that kind of service with all the things and experiences I heard about it.

Oh, and for the "helped more than a few Latin women that needed to get out of terrible situations at home" I'm sure they did, as well as they also rejected a lot of them for lack of resources or space, knowing that these are women with children that can't go back home that same night and are left homeless, and I tell you this because I have a friend that worked at COSTI and took these women, some times even at 1 or 2 in the morning.

So open your eyes y no pongas tus manos al fuego por el centro porque te puedes quemar. No todo lo que brilla es oro. There's a lot of bad to that Center that you don't seem to know, as there might be a lot of good to that immigration Lady that you don’t know. The coin always has two sides.

Girl, you know that I usually agree with you on everything, but to tell you the truth, I haven't had any positive experiences with the Centro de Habla Hispana. The three or four times that I've gone (or someone I know) to them with inquiries, either they were helpless or they confused the hell out of the situation and didn't offer any help at all. Even when I was a new immigrant in this city, I got a lot more help (not knowing the language, mind you) from other canadian institutions than from this Centre. So I never recommend it and I certainly would NEVER promote it. And I heard about the strike last year, and everyone I talked to had bad things to say about this centre. Maybe you have inside info that I don't, 'cause you're really involved with the community, but I really haven't heard or experienced good things with these people.

I had the pleasure of working with Mario Bianchi before and he is one of the best people to meet in this city. He worked (I don't know if he still does) at a community centre in the east and he is very helpful and kind. It's too bad he doesn't have his show on tv anymore (or does he have anything? I don't watch TLN, I wouldn't know), but he's a great person to go to if you have any questions.

I am FULLY aware of the strike at the centre last year....thanks. The employees obviously settled their dispute because the Centre is running fine and all the old employees are still there.

I have personally held job fairs at this centre and so I KNOW FOR A FACT they help find employment for newly landed immigrants as I have hired myself them in the past......

I have witnessed FIRST HAND how they helped more than a few Latin women that needed to get out of terrible situations at home. They help them by counseling them and showing them that they have the strengh to leave these terrible situations.......

As far as wait times go you must keep in mind HOW MANY latinos in this city need help and up until recently this was the ONLY free place to go!!!!!!!!!

You are right they are not all lawyers equiped to handle immigration cases but they will refer you to appropriate lawyers and help you a great deal once you are a landed immigrant.

I HAVE NEVER heard anyone (keep in mind I am VERY active in the Latin community and with new immigrants) say that they were treated like "ignorants" by the centre....YOU ARE THE FIRST ONE.....

Carols instead of ranting and raving about a centre that is REALLY here to service our community I would LOVE to know.......WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR THIS COMMUNITY?????????

did you know that if you dont pay a profecional salary a pro will not work for you. Who do you want heading this some one like me that cant even spell cause i would gladly do it of $20000. But thats exactly what you would get. Until then gas is not free food is not free and the cost of running this is not free. I can tell you this they wont rob you like the lady in the front will. If people are treated like ignorants its cause they portray themselves as such. If you dont want to be treated badly then educate yourself first follow the guidelines probided by society. Learn the language or bring a translator. Read the brochures these are all steps in the right direction. What is it you like everything on a silver platter. Sorry this is canada. yo estoy totalmente deacuerdo con lo que Carlos dice, porque yo he usado los servicios de ellos anteriormente y en primer lugar aunque es una organizacion sin fines de lucro no quiere decir que no es un negocio, el trbajo que ellos hacen no lo realizan al 100%, las experiencia que yo he tenido han sido bastante malas, desde el momento que una recepcionista toma la llamada y ni siquiera saluda , hasta tener que esperar mas de 45 minutos para una cita hecha con varios dias de anticipacion. Existen nuevos proyectos que ayudan a la comunidad uno de ellos , los cuales me han servido de la mejor manera , ha sido Ayuda Hispana y el telefono para quien le interese es 416.398.5556, tienen mucha variedad de servicios y los brindan con excelencia.

Yo si he pasado y he escuchado un sin numeros de problemas que han tenido nuestra comunidad de parte del CPGHH.

Have you ever been serviced (recently) by the CPGHH? It's garbage! They treat our poor needy people like ignorants. They won't solve any of their inmigration problems or any other problem. They will only give you some stupid brochures for some useless seminars that they give sometimes. I don't know one person that has been helped by the CPGHH.

This is a great non profit organization that helps out OUR community so I thought I would post the info for others to use. If I did work there I would be proud of if because they help people.....I am just letting people where then can go without being f&cked around......
