President-elect Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States on January 20th when he takes the oath of office and the demand from the public to get their hands on Inauguration Day tickets has created a market for sellers who have been listing the historic tickets for as much as $40,000 on popular auction sites.
Now California Democratic senator Dianne Feinstein is trying to make the practice of selling Inauguration Day tickets illegal. The 240,000 Inauguration Day tickets are free but such a limited number doesnt nearly meet the demand that the public has shown.
Feinstein chairs the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies and has been crafting a bill that she hopes will outlaw the sale of the Inauguration Day tickets. The Senator noted in an interviewas stating, These tickets are given for free to people. This is a major civic event of the time, and no one pays for their tickets, and we believe no one should be required to pay for their tickets.
