On the flip side.  Toyota open up a plant in Woodstock this week I think?

I know Rogers Shopping Channel outsources too because I use to work for them years ago.

Oshawa GM Plant is temporarily laying off 700 people....

Oshawa is a very important vity for Ontario...it can go to the extremes depending of GM performance...if GM keeps operating Oshawa is and economic powerhouse otherswise, it turns ugly....oshawa has a huge drug addiction problem, high prostitution and high crime rates.

Look this...and they still saying we're cool!

More Than 70,000 Canadians Jobless In November

Friday December 5, 2008

Most Canadians probably didn't need statistics to tell them the economy is bad and people are out of work.

Still, the country's jobless numbers released Friday morning were surprising, revealing huge losses across the board.

Last month, about 70,600 employees found themselves without a job - the most since the major recession in 1982.

Economists had predicted 20,000 lost jobs, with only the most pessimistic doubling that number. But Ontario alone chalked up 66,000 - made worse by the 42,000 workers laid off in its manufacturing sector.

In fact, the country's unemployment rate was 6.3 per cent in November, up from 6.2 per cent the month before - while Ontario's jumped to 7.1 from 6.5 per cent.

There was some good news: the health care, social assistance and professional and technical services categories all saw job increases last month.

Summary of the StatsCan numbers (previous month in brackets):

  • Unemployment rate: 6.3 per cent (6.2)
  • Number unemployed: 1,162,000 (1,139,700)
  • Number working: 17,145,200 (17,215,800)
  • Youth (15-24 years) unemployment: 12.3 per cent (12.0)
  • Men (25 plus) unemployment: 5.6 per cent (5.5)
  • Women (25 plus) unemployment: 4.7 per cent (4.7)

Provincial unemployment rates (previous month in brackets):

  • Newfoundland 13.7 per cent (13.7)
  • Prince Edward Island 10.7 (11.5)
  • Nova Scotia 7.8 (7.5)
  • New Brunswick 8.7 (8.8)
  • Quebec 7.1 (7.2)
  • Ontario 7.1 (6.5)
  • Manitoba 4.2 (4.3)
  • Saskatchewan 3.7 (4.0)
  • Alberta 3.4 (3.7)
  • British Columbia 4.9 (5.1)
42,000 workers

The advisor I deal with at TD told me that banks such as TD have been outsourcing for a long time but interesting enough you don't hear about it.   I'm curious why RBC was a target?

Also...Rogers has laid off 100 people right after Ted Rogers this week.

I think God is right in that the Canadian media is another subordinate of the Government. There have been many layoffs amongst the 5 banks between October and November. Combined there must have been about 1,000 laid off bankers, with outsourcing used as the excuse, together with the bick screwups of the Banks that have reduced their profits.

The Canadian media did not say one word about layoffs at RBC, CIBC and who knows where else, I guess not to "create panic".

Apparently that doesn't stop people from shopping...

It's BS...Canadian news work in a very funny way....they try to keep it cool until the PM gives them the green light...Remember few weeks ago ? despite all the indicators ...all the media said "everything is cool.. Canada economy is stronger, yada yada yada " what happened in the last 7 days....They finally accepted we are heading to a recession.

What they are trying to do is keep people happy...to encourage them to go out and shop to keep the cash flow.

I work in the manufacture Industry and numbers are way down...and My side biz is down...

You should ask Danny to hook you up with a job in the travel industry for the busy Xmas/March break season! blankstare

yup they just hired another bunch ......you would be surprised how many people travel with all this economical crisis happening

Only the average and low income people tend to worry ... People who are loaded, travel often and are not quite as affected by the crisis... Rich people can still afford luxurious vacation

in some cases rich people have a lot more to loose.

surprisngly middle class people are still booking their trips in advance ...this whole week ive been booking lots of youngins going to cancun and the DR ....lots of em dont mind staying at an average 4 star hotel with 3 in a room ....

the retired people will go all out and stay 1 month in lets say cuba...can you believe that?? 1 month in a resort ...blankstare they sure as hell must be taking mini excursions and trips around

aren't trips fairly cheap around this time of the year anyway,
plus the oil prices are kind_a low, is hurricane season, and people travel when they see reduced prices.
caribean destinations are cheap most of the time.
