UPDATE:

Law for Cell Phones (2008)

According to new law that goes into effect Nov 1, 2008 you will no longer be able to use a cell phone while driving unless you have a 'hands free' adapter.

I went to CircuitCity and they wanted $50 for a headset with a microphone for my cell phone.

Having a friend in the cell phone business, I talked with him and was able to come up with an alternative, working through Office Depot.

These kits are compatible with any mobile phone and one size fits all.  My friend paid $0.08 each because he bought in quantity.

Then he tried it with Motorola, Sprint, Verizon and Nokia units and they worked perfectly.

A photo is attached so scroll down & take a look and let me know if you want one.

Also, forward this to anyone you know, who has a cell phone, and who may want one!

So they went for it, eh? No more handheld devices, and the fines are pretty hefty. I'm actually happy. I hate driving while talking on my cell and I don't think anyone should.

I'm not sure how much the fines are yet, but I'd expect to be over $100.00... It's a good law.  I guess I won't use my phone, but just concentrate on reading the paper while driving now! hmm

ONTARIO LIMITS CAR PHONE USE
Legislation due today would impose fines and demerit points for use of gadgets at wheel
Oct 28, 2008 04:30 AM

Queen's Park Bureau

Using hand-held electronic gadgets while driving would be against the law in Ontario under legislation to be introduced today.

Drivers caught emailing, texting or yapping on hand-held devices such as cellphones or BlackBerrys, or using hand-held global positioning systems would face fines and demerit points, a well-placed government source told the Star.

However, drivers using cellphones with earpieces or Bluetooth devices to carry on conversations, or using a dashboard-mounted GPS would have nothing to fear under the bill developed over the past six months by Transportation Minister Jim Bradley.

"I won't say we are staying away from GPSs ... but as long as it is mounted to the car it will be allowed," the government source added. "Portable GPS, in the hands or in BlackBerrys, are covered under the ban."

Ontario to ban cellphone use while driving: report

Updated: Mon Oct. 27 2008 8:56:57 AM

The Canadian Press

TORONTO Media reports say Ontario will join Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Quebec in banning cellphone use while driving.

There are several media reports that the Liberal government will introduce a bill to ban electronic distractions next Tuesday.

The reports say Transport Minister Jim Bradley will be seeking to prohibit all use of phones, BlackBerrys and GPS devices by drivers in the province.

The reports say the law will likely only apply to those behind the wheel and not passengers in the front or back seat.

Previous attempts to introduce private member's bills banning cellphones have failed.

=====================

Although, I am quite frequently quilty of the offences, I think it's a good idea to ban cell phone usage while driving.  It should make the roads a bit safer. thumbsup.gif
