Ok. I see what you're saying. Yup actually, it was either going away or buying a condo lol. Well they have done it before. Years ago the lived in Finland and then came to Toronto. They get restless lol every couple of years.
I'm starting a business on the side so yes I can see your point. But no I can't just leave my job...it can suck being responsible!
I could see myself taking off for about a month but nothing more. Always nice to dream though
I guess -and only under the assumption- your freinds are average people (?) Average income, etc (again, I'm only assuming. Hence "at a glance") This is probably something that will take their life savings to accomplish (they're in their 30s, no?) Not to mention quiting a secure job to then start looking for a job when it's all over. But as I said, cada uno sabra lo que hace y puede hacer. I wouldn't.
As for the leaving someone in charge of your business.... I don't know if you own or have owned your own business, but there is just no way you can leave someone in charge of your business for a year. I can barely take a ONE week vacation, let alone leave someone in charge for a year. You're much better off doing what your friends are doing. Quit and then try to find a job... again

If you have a business I guess you can leave someone in charge. If you have a mortgage then that's a problem but I guess unless you share the mortgage with other people at the house?
It would be amazing. i guess it depends on what kind of job/business you have as well. At a glance, it seems a bit irresponsible, but cada uno.... If I ever can afford to retire for a WHOLE year, it would likely be at a point where I can afford to retire, period.

A girl that use to work with me quit her job and so did her husband.
They decided to take a year off. They are staying in Argentina for 6 months (to properly dance tango) and then back packing for another 6 month through South America (undecided where yet).
They want to do it now since they are in their 30's and I guess I should mention that they don't want kids. They are not rich but according to her they don't really drink, smoke or go clubbing, they don't own a car, walk everywhere and they rent. They live comfortably.
How amazing is that! Would you ever consider doing this?
I luv to travel so this would be an amazing idea...but to actually do it lol.....mmm
