That's totally out of the question! (leaving your kid to pursue a career)
That being said... how many of you would do as most of our parents did? pick up (kids and all) leave everything behind to go to a country where you don't even understand what the hell they are saying? Now THAT'S balls

:raiseshand:

There's one thing I learned growing up with a mom who did exactly that: the one thing I can actually give my kids is EXPERIENCES-- it's not the toys, the clothes, the stuff that they'll remember and learn from; it's the experiences we live together.

That's one thing I would never, ever do: leave my child to go chase a dream somewhere else. Jobs and careers can be had anytime. Their childhood only happens once and I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Would there be anything holding you back? My family's unwillingness to leave everything behind and embark on a crazy, irresponsible and possibly dangerous adventure. If I could convince them to pack up and leave, we'd be off as fast as it takes to renew my passport, which incidentally, I've been meaning to do for the past 8 months and can never get around to doing. shrug.gif

It's easier for her to get a hold of me here and if she ever needs anything, it's easy for me from here as well.

Don't know how I could help her from Asia or Europe.  Know what I mean, jelly bean?  wink.gif

you could get a work visa for the UK, for a year or two i think by being a canadian citizen and under 35? same applies for australia. i think france has some deal too.

you could always teach english in asia.. a lot of people seem to do that.

i am working in washington dc myself, which is not abroad really.. but i have no regrets about moving away! :)

I went to Aussieland for school, not for work, but the experience of travelling is amazing! LEaving home and everything that you know is hard, but it's so rewarding when you finish your experience knowing you made it on your own. I would do it again anytime!!!
