I was just browsing the channels on my day off and saw this ridiculous mansion with tons of pointless, yet ridiculously expensive things... Such as a solid gold hot tub.
And on another channel was that stupid Sweet 16 show on MTV or VH1... WHAT PARENT spends $500,000 on their child's 16th birthday party? Who buys their child a brand spankin' new Mercedes when they're too irresponsible to appreciate it? And succumb to their RIDICULOUS tantrums and hissy fits when they say "Daaaddddyyyyy, I want it to be PINK! I DONT WANT IT UNLESS IT'S PINK!" When the child doesn't appreciate ANYTHING, because they've had it handed to them all their lives.
I'm a firm believer in working for what I have and appreciating the things and money that I have, because I know I worked hard to get what I have... And I don't think anyone in their right mind, who had to work for everything they have, would be so stupid as to buy a solid gold hot tub. What the f*ck's wrong with plastic? Oh the horror....Oh boy.....

I agree... I'm not frivolous or a crazy spender myself.
But did you know that rich people are usually very thrifty and careful with their money, and people who are very showy and throw money like it grows on trees end up either poor or with high debt? Sometimes they don't even HAVE the money they're spending. I guess it's all about being smart with your money and know what you really need. It's nice to have fine things in life too, but not break the bank getting them.

I am NOT saying that I would not give to charity. Of course I would in fact if I had the kind of money that would allow me not to work so I could dedicate every single day of my life to helping others.....I swear on my child that is what I would do. Does that mean I wouldn't own the limited edition Hermes bag....hello no. I would buy expensive thing. I think the point is how comfortable you feel splurging when others are doing so badly. I must admit, I would slurged a little bit. Maybe a nice house (maybe bigger than I really need) and a nice car (maybe two), but I would definitely NOT splurged in things likea gold tub, or a few million worth of jewelry, or what-have-you. The rest of the money... I dunno. Maybe start a charity, or something
I would do the same as you. Splurge a bit on stuff like a home, decent cars, but nothing extreme. I would throw my girls nice quinceañeras and all, but obviously not to the extreme of MTV Sweet 16. And i would like to invest in charities and help my loved ones if they need it.
