(sorry LG, you beat me to the punch, I just noticed)

He should seek help with his gambling, then seek counselling for his marriage.
Gambling problems are more common than most realize. All you need is a quick taste of easy money and you're hooked.

I'm a poker player, and trust me, once you get a taste of the pot (poker term reffering to the amount of money available to be won) you want more, and since noone wants to leave the table without trying their luck as much as they can, it can get really competitive and addictive.

Hope they can get out this one...

I have come across and know people who have lost BIG $. I believe that what gets people into it is the idea of "easy money" - Maybe they played and got lucky in the first few tries and made a few bucks and THAT is what gets some people hooked. Then they go back to try to win again. Obviously, when it comes to most gambling - players eventually do lose. The only ones pretty much "guaranteed" to make $ is the "house" - the gambling house. There are very few long term winners.

That game got really popular a few years back during the NHL strike - instead of there being Hockey Night In Canada, many of us were watching The World Poker Tour or other poker shows.... it took off like wildfire.

The game IS addicting - but one's got to have control and play within one's personal limit.  Very recently I started keeping an exact tab -excel sheet- of earning vs. loses.  I'm up about a quarter of a million dollars - or a quarter of a G - whichever is more realistic. biggrin

Good for her.  It could be years or never if he recovers.  Just like people that drink....they drink and test the limits.

yes my brother's friend before his mother died use to drink and once she died he got worse and started gambling.  The wife was at home and she kept popping kids like 4 all around the same time.  They went on assistance.  He
then lost his job....they separated and then i think they got back together?

Now my question is this? If you see your husband drowning in debt #1 why not quickly get involved in the finances part of it #2 stop having kids.

I don't understand women that have no control or know nothing of the finances?  I'll be damm if the guy brings me down with him.  I say if you want to drown, drown by yourself!

I don't know if you know anyone in this situation. I never have.. until now
Someone close to me is in a jam because her husband gambled away, pretty much -with the exception of the house- everything they have/had.
I guess HE was the one taking care of finances, and she found out, not long ago, that the mortgage hasn't been paid in about three months, he gambled all his savings, he gambled all HER savings, ran up all his credit cards, ran up all HER cards, borrowed thousands from HER family. So they are now left with nothing + thousands in debt.... AND he's unemployed hmm.gif
I never quite got it... I can undestand, maybe, drugs; but addicted to GAMBLING?? I mean, rEally??? confuse.gif
Know any similar stories?
