A TTC employee has been charged for allegedly selling counterfeit tickets from her Wilson subway station booth.
Transit constables arrested the 31-year-old woman and Toronto police subsequently charged her with numerous offenses including fraud, theft, breach of trust and possession of instruments of forgery.
Forged tickets are reportedly a costly problem for the transit commission - they estimate they're losing $300,000 to $400,000 a month in revenue lost to the fakes.
"The counterfeit tickets are of exceptional quality," admits TTC spokesman Brad Ross. "If we don't do something now we're looking at a $5 million loss by the end of 2008."
That's why they're looking at eliminating tickets altogether. Transit officials will be making a decision on the issue next week. Only Adult tickets would be scrapped - senior and student tickets would still be used.
Tokens would continue to be sold.
Anyone who has purchased Adult tickets from a TTC collector booth in the last week should check the ticket serial numbers. Police are interested in the following series: A7731069-A7731072 and A7660481-A7660484.
Anyone in possession of one or more of those tickets is asked to call police at 416-808-3207 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

Heck, I remember even back during my highschool students used to split those old tickets and using half a ticket only.

TTC must lose considerable amount of $ because of fake fares and because they have to use resources to fight this... part of the reason fare prices keep going up, I guess!

tokens have always been better.
