I don't think it is wrong but I do think people do it for the wrong reasons.
Boredom, frustration with a partner/ex, seeking an eventual relationship or simple self gratification are poor reasons to potentially hurt yourself, or worse, someone else.

If there is respect, safety, discretion and mutual understanding with a suitable partner (or umm... partners), it is hard to find fault in it.

On another note I think the 'double standard' between men and women is not as evident these days. Either society is changing or there is more acceptance the older we get.
