DOGO

Wow, we obviously went off topic. There's definately NO excuse for the parents of the abandoned child. I think those parents deserve a harsh punishment.

As for Post Partum, it is depression but it also brings many other symptoms to it. It's not always an excuse but it depends on the symptom. Like i said everyone gets it different. One of my friends would lose her memory every so often and i had another friend who didn't think her son was hers. Luckily they got help though. Some people get mentally ill shrug.gif

Yes there are times where you want to throw your kid out the window, I understand the frustration of dealing with it. But actually acting on it is what differenciates the 'normal' parents from the nut cases. Whether you have PPD or not
The 'nut cases' should rot in jail.. I don't care how severe their case of PPD was/is

Yes see there are nut cases, straight up horrible moms/dads, abusive parents etc.  We are not talking abou them.  Don't get me wrong I don't fully understand it myself because like you I can't imagine feeling removed from my daughter since from the second I had her she is my entire life.  There are cases of mothers who fall so far down into a depression that they feel like killing themselves or the baby.  It's not that they are crazy run of the mill killers.  They actually suffer from a horrible depression and they can't diagnose themselves.  That is why now in Ontario they have things like nurses visiting you at home after the birth to asess your behaviour.  They also speak to you about it in the hospital. Let me see what i can find on this......

@ the dogman: No dude, no one is making excuses for what happened to this little girl.  Her parents should honestly be left out in the cold naked and then have starving rats released on them.  There is absolutely no excuse for what they did to the little girl.

HOWEVER, there are very severe cases of PPD, that affects the mother so deeply where she will not bond with her child and feels so far removed from him/her, that they form no bond.  It is a very serious and real illness, but still, NOT an excuse to harm your baby.

Also there is much more information about PPD now a days, then say 50 years ago.  It is better understood now, and I believe better treatment is provided.

But what do I know, I no have no baybay.

Doguito, maybe i didn't write it properly but i am agreeing with you. Because it makes no sense to me either, i also agree that there are other issues involved, and using PPD is just a way out, or just a plain excuse. shrug.gif

I'm sorry, no offence Guada, but I don't buy that.
I'm not trying to downplay it, but how many woman go through this? I bet lots. How many choose to kill their kid? not many
I understand suicidal tendencies, but not killing a third person, let alone your own child
These women have other issues besides PPD

I wouldn't be affraid of having to go through it, if I were you. And don't set yourself up for a "traumatic" experience. If anything, it will be one of the nicest experiences you go through

Dogo, i know how incomprehensible this PPD is, even to me it makes no sense, it's common sense to seek help if you need it right? Wrong.

The ones who suffer PPD severely, they don't know the difference berween right or wrong. They are convinced that by harming the child, they are actually doing good. Don't ask me why, but that's how it is. Those people get the weirdest ideas. I'm not one to speak out of experience, but i can imagine that giving birth is very a very traumatic thing for a woman to go through. Now, if this lady doesn't get help and emotional support at home, it will only get worse. It is why they usually have nurses come to your house now a days, for the first weeks to keep an eye on you, and make sure baby is feeding well.

All i know is, that when my time comes, i'm going to be scared to go through it. BUT i also know that i will have all the help i need.

Ok, wait... I'm all for understanding, supporting and treating people with some sort of mental illness, but is it just me or are you guys trying to excuse this -for lack of a better word- abominal behaviour?. I don't know if it's what you guys mean, but the tones of your posts are "Ooooh... pobrecita she couldn't handle itcry"
I'm sorry, and not to seem insensitive, but.... are you friggin serious???

No one is denying that this deep depression could happen under these particular circumstances, or, I should say... specially under these circumstances, and yes, I'm sure it sucks and yadda yadda, but give me a break!

As I mentioned before, I can understand and sympathize with people who are depressed. Depression  is something I think most of us have been through (BTW, men also get PPD) and can relate to. So I don't buy any of this "you'll never understand because you're a man". Men don't get depressed??weirdface

If a woman has this "syndrome" then seek help, seek family support, doctors, help lines, etc.... There is help out there. If you don't, and choose to kill or abandon your child INSTEAD, then you have bigger underlying problems that have nothing to do with PPS, PPD or whatever! And THAT, I CAN'T sympathize with. And I don't care if you have the big momma load of all syndromes, it ABSOLUTELY does not excuse killing or abandoning your kid to die!

BTW... I'm sure most of these "syndromes" and fancy names that do nothing more than ID illnesses which are not new, which we are all aware of, and have been around since the dawn of mankind, are all a product of semi-corrupt "experts" and some jump-on-the-mental-illness'-defence-bandwagon-lawyers to get some sick bastards off the hook
Lorrena Bobbit and her "battered woman syndrome" ring a bell?? Pleasehmm

PS. Before you all go "HOW COULD YOU!!" on me (on the LB case).... Yes, I KNOW BWS exists. Does it excuse cutting a man's di*ck off? NO! Should a person with BWS (or anything else for that matter) be "excused" made felt sorry for, and not go to jail for it? Pffffft!!!

Not every person gets the same feeling during Post Partum Depression. You're lucky that your Post Partum wasn't as bad as other woman. Some woman get really bad and lose their minds.

Okay you are confusing the hell out of me.  We are talking about women in general that suffer from very severe cases of post partum depression.  I wasn't talking about me because I did not get depressed after having my baby.  weirdfaceWe aren't just talking about baby blues we are talking about women who get so depressed after child birth that they murder thier children.

Okay I am confused.  Please stay off all threads biggrin

Yeah post partum is some serious stuff.  I know a girl who didn't want to even touch her baby for the entire first month. It's hard for me to understand because I can't imagine not wanting to hold my baby.  You have to be horribly depressed to not want anything to do with your newborn.  It must be such a horrible feeling. cry

my 2 cents......

i guess the money they get from Social Services and the money coming in from Tyrone hustling rocks on the block isn't enough to take care of a baby. useless and careless people. wat else can u expect from these people nowadays..

i agree with wat Alejandro said, some people really don't deserve to become parents.

i know a couple that most defenitely should get a visit from Children's Aid...

You will never know the meaning of post partum. It is something serious. Some woman get it and it affects them really bad.

I know someone who had it really bad and has thoughts of giving her child up for adoption. Her mother ended up taking her son from her for a few months until she got better. Thank goodness she didn't do anything stupid. She received medical attention and eventually she got better.

Ok mujer, where are you going with this???

Some people don't give them up and the kids end up suffering with the parent.

We are just stating that some people do NOT deserve having children.

And if there is a smaller percentage of children to Adopt, then don't you think that would be great. A lot of kids that are put up for adoption never get adopted and that's truly sad. Children that are brought into this world all deserve a family, don't you think.

WOW I didn't know that it was that serious... I mean is so hard to believe that someone will kill their baby becasue of depression... I don't know I still don't get this....

I thought it was just an excuse.... I would be like, yeah right blame it on depression.... I guess it is really serious.. I didn't know the government sent a nurse to new mom's houses...

Interesting... One more reason NOT TO HAVE KIDS.

THANK YOU

I think he meant to say that 'some' people don't deserve to have children and i agree with him. I remember when i was a kid my parents used to rent the second floor of the house. Anyhoo this one woman lived in our home with her daughter who at the time was my age (maybe 7-9 years old). She would always go out at night and leave her daughter home alone all night long. Sometimes my parents would feed her because her mom was gone and she wouldn't feed her daughter. They ended up moving out. I think my parents complained to her. I always wonder what ever happened to her. This is the type of person who doesn't deserve a child. If a person doesn't care for their child's well being etc.. then they shouldn't have kids. I hope that girl didn't grow up learning her mother's bad ways. hmm

Not everyone gets it.  I didn't.

It is a VERY real problem.  Many women suffer from it.  Actually when I had Chile Jr and was at home I got a call from a Nurse. She wanted to schedule a time to come by and see me.  She was with the goverment.  They send them to the homes of all new moms in Ontario now.  They come over and talk to you about your baby.  They ask you questions....let you ask them questions.  The main focus is making sure you are okay.  Making sure you are not suffering from depression.  I think it's great.  This particular type of depression has caused moms to go off the deep end and kill their babies.

Let me see if I can find something in writting about it.

RE: abandoned 8 mth old abby girl in freezin parking lot :(
Permalink

in case u cant open the link:

They don't know who she is or who her parents are but Toronto police are hoping to answer those questions and others after a pedestrian found an eight-month-old baby girl abandoned in a freezing parking lot stairwell in North York Wednesday.

The tot was found by a pedestrian at about 12:30pm, reportedly two hours after she was left at the Leslie Finch Square Mall. The woman thought she was a doll before taking a closer look and realizing that it was in fact a baby after it started to cry..

Police have surveillance video of a person who may be involved in leaving the child there, and they're expected to release more pictures sometime Thursday morning in the hopes of identifiying both the youngster and her parents.

"She's currently in healthy and in hospital which is absolutely fantastic," noted Insp. Kim Yeandle of 33 Division. "We're appealing to the public. Somebody must know this baby, somebody must miss her now."

Police released a picture of a vehicle they believe is connected to the individual who left her - it's a green, four-door Ford Escort, model year 1997 to 2000.

Yeandle says the tot was wearing a white snowsuit and green hat, and a picture of that could be released.

"(At this time of year) everyone's bundled up. You (didn't necessarily) see her face but maybe you might recognize the snowsuit," she noted. "We're hoping (seeing that) might twig people's memories as well.

"It's been 24 hours now. She's not at home, she's not at daycare. Somebody's got to know her, somebody's got to realize she's missing. We hope someone will come forward and help us identify her."

The little girl is currently the care of the Children's Aid Society. If you can help identify her or assist police in finding the car, call 33 Division at 416-808-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477)
