last nite on cbc they had a progrm regarding our health care.....

they said that we have the same amount of doctor as in the late 60 and sufficient family doctors for capita of population....so where are they?? let me tell you where they are there playing golf and only working 40 to 50 hrs a weeks just like the rest of us.....WHAT SHOCKED ME THE MOST IS THE WAY THAT CITIES RECRUIT DOCTORS TO THERE CITIES....OMG IM SHOCKED!!! ITS LIKE A CONVENTION AND THEY BRIBE THEM INTO STUFF LIKE GIVING THEM FREE HOUUSING, FREE SKI MEMBERSHIPS, A BONUS, FREE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.......

they also sd that most family doctors now are working with a crew of ppl for your health....basically a dietician, a nurse, pharmacist and the doctor itself to give youa full medical exam.....what do you think of this idea??

I have worked for a private medical clinic for over 2 years, and i will tell you that although the doctors here do golf, take vacations, etc.  I see that they also work their ass off.  They work over 50 hours a week, considering that a lot of them have specialist clinics at different hospitals, some of them have private practices outside of this one, and some do both (hospital and private practice).  They also spend a lot of their time doing their paper work, reports, etc.  (Believe me, i know cause i gotta bug their A$$ to meet deadlines).  Maybe the difference here to the OHIP system is that it is a private clinic, so they gotta be more on the ball cause the clients here pay big bucks to come here.

The team idea, that's exactly how we work here.  All the assistants here work for specific doctors, and our teams consist of a nurse consultant and a referral coordinator.   So there is one point of contact, the nurse, who takes care of all the results, etc.  The referral coordinator takes care of arranging referrals from the doctor, specialist appointments.  And the secretaries (moi) take care of reports, script renewals, patient requests etc.  The clients that come here love that because at least they know who to go to and are not being passed around to different ppl for their requests.
