It was always sort of something fun/funny to listen to, for partying and stuff
The last I remember, of the 'classics' (that first come to mind) that sort of shot cumbia villera/fun music, and all that 'genre' into main stream, was Los Sultanes or Los Autenticos Decadentes,or La Mosca... among others.
They  all started as a "fu ck-around, just-for-fun" garage bands, and unwillingly became main-stream bands
I'm not a big fan, although some of the songs are real fun/funny to listen to
After that era, cumbia villera became something people could bear to listen to
It's still REALLY bad music though. Musically, lyrically, etc... It's just something fun to get goofy/drunk to, that's allshrug.gif

hey dogo my friend told me that in argentina las cumbias villeras r considered low class.....she brought tons of cds!jawdrop.gif

Well... It USED to be considered low class.  Cumbias was not something you would hear at 'nice' night clubs in Buenos Aires (No offence... but Buenos Aires was always more into latin pop and rock, or english influenced music)
Cumbia (of any kind) was music you would only play for new years, or Christmas parties, on the streets, to get goofy to.
How it ever got to main stream, is beyond me
NOW it's the biggest thing.... go figure

well i still like it lol....its big in ecuador too.....i think lately ive been listenting to more of that then reggaeton jawdrop.gif

He plays on the same stage as "Pibes Chorros"?
There you go dude. An Ecua singer and cumbia villera. Perfect combo for you!

Anyhow... he reminds me of Juanes or Carlos Vives for some reason
