As some of the people here know....i do this for living..its been almost 2 years i do the "latin events" lol you guys see here BUT i also do all ages...that you guys dont even hear about.....i cant complain its been greta for the 2 years..
I personally dont go BIG at all with the latin scene.....
I rather throw spend $$ on even a local talen "GEORGE" throw an all ages and expect a minimum of 1200 people @ the all ages venue.....
it just makes mroe sense......BUT I ALSO GOT to say that Jerry Rivera's concert has motivate me and Henry to look into a different sort of concerts...Jerry's show was great, considering we had 3 weeks to promote and the outcome was 1300 people at Palazzo...
Well taco,
Why don't U try to go big in Mtl too, at times we need some fresh air instead of all the same promoters organizing concert in Mtl. Come to promote some concert in the biggest french speaking city in America (north and south and central america included).
Thanx for the offer sir....not sur bout MTL, i know a lot of people there but...i ratehr stick to do Toronto Area.......
Bigg Peruvian concert next year

another no brainer question lol ..what do you think hermano??? do u not see myself and peeps like don P who always say that we need better reggaeton concerts? do u notice how acts like willie colon jerry rivera eddie santiago gran combo etc etc all end up being huge events here? unlike zion and lennox rakim y ken y and baby ranks? (don omar was the only full house)....
the foro itself is a great replica of how things move here in torontos latin scene....people hating on eachother...promoters getting bashed......people nevers fully satisifed with a concert....a lil observation the majority of people here love salsa while me don p and maybe 2 others r crazy reggaeton fans......
so yeah im surprised arcangel didnt do good down there...i seen some youtube clips of his concerts and they look pumpin
Money is there....risk is always taken by promoters....even at the weekly or monthly club events.....you risk certain amount of time, work and money jsut to even throw a "once a month" club event......
I have been to over 4 concerts in MTL and i have also noticed that even tho the events were Latin.... people dont hate as much as they do here in T.O
In regards to taking risks......i personally believe that in order to make money, you got to go big with whatever you do....big acts, big well known venues, bigg flyers, expensive paper and design etc etc etc..
I totally agree. So would you say promoters here GO BIG? Big acts? Big venues and so on.
I am not hating on the promoters in Toronto. I am sure they work hard. I am just saying I doubt they have tons of money to play with.
Talking about going big, there is rumors that jowel y randy might come february 2 nd, 2008 in Mtl mas infos : www.ligue-a.com

Following the above comments...another question... Is there a big fan base of reggaeton lovers or is Toronto still into salsa ?

The thing in Mtl is that you support the artist and if the artist present a wack performance then we ran at the promoters like the last time it happen with the Arcangel concert a couple of months ago.
About Hector el father concert there were some critics about is show presented a sunday starting at 4 pm......but people still showed up at around 8-9 pm. There is some critics here too by young hispanics crowd about tickets prices and the venue (in the middle of the same sex couple village) far from most latinos live. Maybe you didn't here these critics because the were said in french by the younger hispanics generation toward the promoters.
All that to say that here in Mtl, it is not always perfect even though reggaeton se vende como pan caliente. Acqui en Montreal, Reggaeton is by far in front of salsa ...which is not necessary the case in the Queen city (T.O.)
for wat i hear the MC said " f u c k those who said baby ranks' conceert was a scam" so i hope i see paisa and any of the people involved in the event, we'll see about this... bunch of crooks...

This goes out to all the promoters......answer me this....im very curious
what does it take to bring down some good artists and i mean current artists? (reggaeton salsa spanish rock etc etc) .....like whats the issue here? is it cuz maybe u guys fear that u will spend too much$$$$$$$and have like a few hundred people going only?
or is it simply cuz they cost too much?.....no organization?(but then i refer to montreal bringing down good artists always i just think that toronto has what it takes to do the same)......
explain please thanx
I think it's also a different mind frame Latinos in Montreal probably pick up a bit more of the Euro life style, and, I think, put a lot more value on entertainment If a concert here cost more than $5 to get in, we're bi*tching!! WTF!? So why the hell would a promoter even bother

listen back in the day there was mad concert;s.. when sabor latino would bring them and they would sell out no if's or but there concerts were big and NOT EXPENSIVE like today, see back in the day the promoter wanted the public to come to there concert now the promoter only what's to make more money then they can handle

good point! i was gonna say that...its like they always find something negative to ruin a possibly good event!....
i give enough props for people trying to open new clubs with the hopes of making it steady....its so hard
A hot hot hot artists.....( dont matter the genre)
cost bigg money, their rider is super bigg $$ and to top it all...they always like to travel with like 10 or more people........!!!
so you got:
- A performance/show price. -Rider ( hotel rooms, food, flights, stage, etc etc etc) -Venue Cost -Promo Cost( tv, radio, flyers, posters, street team, newspapers) -And you got to get a profit after all
So you got to hope people feel the artists and buy their tickets or you will be loosing a lot of money my friend. Bigg Risk, bigg money, bigg lose or win
see i thought that was the real reason....had to be...
In other major cities you have promoters that have tons of money. They can afford to put on big shows and take big risks.
so u are saying that toronto (being a decent big north american city) and its promoters dont have the$$$$...but montreal can?

Well it's been years since I was really in the scene. When I was in the scene is was dominated by Carlos Zapata. He put on some good shows and took some risks. He actually always had a decent amout of money and even he wouldn't take the risks of bringing certain big name artists. So YES I guess I am saying that promoters here don't have the money to play around with. They need to bring the acts that they do and have them in the venues that they do to ensure they make some money. In New York there are promoters with SERIOUS cash. BIG time promoters that can afford to take the risks.
