Fawk - seems that every week we hear/read about some serious accident of death as a result of morrons racing their cars on the street! This weekend, yet another death. Now no one limits their driving the the speed limits - we all go a few k's over the limit; but to RACE another driver on the road, that's crazzzy! I am not sure exactly what I heard; but I believe I heard that something IS actually being done and laws HAVE been PASSED and overly agressive drivers (40 kms over the limit?) will get their licenses suspended. Ok, now I feel better! I just better learn to hold on to my own led foot.
well its good that the police is finally doing something to crack down on street racing but i dont think its enough. if you are caught doing 50km over the limit, your car is impounded and you your license is suspended for a week. i think you may recieve a fin up to $2000 along with a damaged driving record. But, JUST A WEEK?!??!! to me thats like a slap on the wrist!!
I agree with Bonita. Plus the fine only applies if convicted. Someone with a good lawyer can literally get off with a slap on the rist. They should change it so that you can get your car impounded for going over 10 or 20. 50 over is a bit too leniant. Going at 149kms is not safe at all.
You crazy? I think on city streets, going 10 over should be MAX unless it's a school zone.
I think on the highways it should be no more than 120!!!
Yay autobahn!!!!!!! Vroom vroom!!!!!!

that's for SPEEDING alone - 50KMs over the limit... which on an OPEN clear road and good weather, I may be tempted and do. I think that the hustle of getting my impounded car back, a $2000 dollar fine, a DAMAGED driving record (Which would skyrocket my insurance prices), and a one week suspension would definately be enough for me not to do it again.
now if I was RACING agaings another driver/car - and going the same 50 kms over the limit, I would consider it to be a more serious offence 'cause now there are two cars involved and the risk for serious harm may be greater.

'Loaded gun' Hubby of victim of alleged racing says new tough law just start By IAN ROBERTSON, SUN MEDIA
As two pals prepared funerals yesterday for their wives killed in a suspected street-racing crash, one called for even stiffer aggressive driving penalties.
"It's just like running down the street with a loaded gun," Derreck Dougherty said.
He said Ontario should require governors on all young drivers' cars, and highway speeds should be cut.
Road races, such as the one Peel Regional Police said led to the death of his wife Cindy Dougherty and friend Mariarosa Dalsass, "are just irresponsible," Dougherty said from his home in Beeton.
"The government has to do something more to stop this kind of behaviour," he said, lauding tougher laws against high-flying and aggressive drivers, which came into effect the weekend before he and best friend Murray Osborne lost their wives.
"Thanksgiving is for quality time to be with your families," Dougherty said. "I have my family but my loved one isn't here."
Two brothers charged in the crash appear in Brampton court today.
Dougherty said his wife of 10 years, a mother of two and grandmother of two by a previous relationship, was preparing to help her ailing mom by moving into her home this week.
A part-time administrative assistant, Cindy Dougherty, 49, quit her job after her mother said she could no longer care for herself alone, Dougherty said.
"Cindy was nothing but a giver, and never asked anything in return."
He saw the chain reaction crash Saturday that instantly killed the two women on Hwy. 50, south of Countryside Dr.
As Cindy Dougherty drove, with Dalsass, 44, in the passenger seat, police said they were hit by a car that lost control after trying to pass a large truck on a gravel shoulder.
Murray Osborne, Dalsass' husband, who Dougherty called to the crash site, said they considered burying their wives together.
But before going to a cemetery in Palgrave to choose a grave, Osborne said "we decided they will be with us," in separate cemeteries, in plots where the two men will eventually join their wives.
They will take turns as pallbearers at the two services.
Officers arrested Steven Machado, 22, and his brother Brian Macado, 27, at the site.
They are accused of driving an Audi and a BMW at speeds up to 140 km/h -- 60 km/h over the 80 km/h limit.
They are charged with two counts each of criminal negligence causing death and police said they have not ruled out other possible charges.
Mary Jo Deighan, a Toronto Catholic District School Board spokesman, said colleagues and students were shocked by the death of Dalsass, a highly respected long-time teacher and guidance counsellor at Dante Alighieri Academy on Playfair Ave. in North York.
Twice named the board's teacher-of-the-year, she was "very, very well-thought of" and worked closely with "our most vulnerable students" in special education high school classes, Deighan said.
