It's there but nobody uses it (or hardly) unless it's for something very formal. The kitchen is where everything happens. Don't know why. i kinda like it though

LOL I hear you TV Buff.... I told my hubby, when we have kids, we will turn off the TV and have a normal conversation.... So right now we are preparing for that by watching as much TV as possible when we eat LOL....

when we were growing up right up untill i was 21 every night we had to be at dinner with my mom the only exception was on fridays and weekends!!!! Now its every sunday at her house and every friday at the inlaws kinda keeps it nice and homey!!!
It's nice. Hubby and i did it for a while. We later discovered that eating in front of the TV is much more fun and the silent moments are now non-existent.
They do this at my in laws though. Which i don't mind.
Yes! Actually back home it's mostly eat-in kitchens that they have, and the TV is ALWAYS in the kitchen The dining/living room is only para cuando viene la visita. And most times not even... if people come over you just hang out at the kitchen table watching TV and drinking mate or wine... Hardly anybody uses the LR/DR on a regular basis. Just a place to keep the couches and the stereo We brought that custom with us, although we do use the DR, the TV has to always be in sight We still all eat together (when I lived at home anyway) but we have dinner like at 10pm (well... my parents still do)

@ Chilenita _ I'm with u girl, in my house we did the same growing up (god forbid we missed a family dinner time), now that we are older, we tend to do it on friday nites (weather at home but mostly restaurant & then on sunday my mom cooks traditional stuff & we all eat like pigs & together. LOL
@ X - I agree with u hun, that will be our rule as well.

I'm down with CHE........dinner with la familia is the best thing, now at days with people working is hard to have that, I don't have it much beause my mother works at nights but when i get the chance i enjoy it to the fullest.
having dinner as a familia is a good thing for the kids if u don't like it, do it for ur kid.
When I was little my parents used to insist that we all sit around the table for dinner time. They would discuss world issues (okay mainly Chile) and me and my bro would get in s h i t for laughing which I never understood. ANYHOW when we got older we all started doing our own thang at dinner time. We no longer sat around the table.
CHE wants us (che, chile jr and I) to sit around the dinner table for dinner every night. I have gotten so used to doing my own thing at dinner when he had different work hours that now it's a bit of a drag. I think I get his point though...family blah blah blah....
