@ GL - not necessarily, it's usually a policy that banks have when ur a new client with them.
See I only use Royal Bank, it's been my bank since I started working & I've never ran into any problems, but then I was inquiry at Montreal & I asked & they said yes, it will go on for a bit (holdin chqs.) so I said forget it.
Anyhow I'm not 100% sure so I can't say, but either way I hate it.

I think the worst is when the banks decide to hold a chq that's pay to u for 5 buss. days, I find that wrong.
BUt thats usually due to your own credit bureau......the higher your score the mroe access u have to ur deposited funds.
or it's bank policy to see how long u are with them
If you know you have a strong enough credit score, you can definitely ask for an exception to that policy. It doesnt hurt to ask adn not accept a no as an answer right away until u see something on paper
