i went to montreal this summer....i wasent to impressed ..the latin scene looked the same as here...maybe id have to stay a bit longer to check it out more ...
the states by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr has a better variety of latin sceneries then we ever well have....when i went to chicago i was witnessed it ....people arent as stuck up as here too
Also why the Latin scene ain't the same is that young Latino have no interest in their cultura they adapt another cultura and this is were parent are to blame my son is 13 years old and he dance salsa, merengue' bachata and any Latin ritmo you throw at him. Why cause I taught him. Their is some 20 year old kid that don't know how to dance that's just sad
I see your point Eddie. All of them including yourself have made alot of moves in the city for sure. maybe it's because now we live in an era where everything is too expensive and STILL people on both sides don't want to spend. But I believe there should be a breed of promoters that are risk takers. Too many are defensive and grasp their money too tight which is safe but in the end, alot of events end up having their corners clipped for budget purposes. I'm referring more to concerts. Clubs I think are way easier to promote because you have it on a weekly basis...so if one week doesn't work out, you have the next week to look to. On the other hand, concerts are a b i t c h. It's a one time chance for you to make it or break it. I just wish we would have a latin event out of any hockey arena, club or community centre and put them into great venues like theatres and big banquet halls. It would be nice to have world renowned headliners come in that cater to everyone in the community. I know its hard. Latinos are a forced race and even though we all speak the same language, in the end there are 20 something different countries. Times are so different now...

LMFAO. This is the laugh i needed today.
As for my opinion on this thread, i agree with LSC. Up till now, no one brings acts like Carlos Zapata and Sabor Latino productions did. Those were the days.

Whenever I get the chance I tell him that BELIEVE ME!!!!! I tell him that he should come back into the scene. He is older now and settled down and is focusing on his family so he is living a more quiet life plus he has a new little one. He is done with promoting. Hopefully soon we will have someone like him around

why is everyone complaining so much about the promoters?? ,, when noone else is really trying to spend their money and time in trying to promote new events.. We should at least leave the promoters alone and stop complaining so much .. if we dont like the events then we shouldnt go ... I been to a couple of events and they are not bad , they have their own crowd , same faces but oh well at least some are having fun. The question should be why isnt there more promoters??. it seems like a lot of us have good ideas , maybe we should start to promote some events and start investing some money
Most of us have different taste than our younger generations ( 19, 20 , 21) so we put the promoters in a position that if they satisfy what we want then they may loose what they have.. I know that most of us here are more of a classy crowd , at least we have babalu...
reasons why eddie made a good move and bounced out...anyone else in his shoes would do the same...
lol u guys think things will change in 4 years from now the way its going?haha

To be honest yes the Latin scene is a lot different in Toronto and World wide then it was 10 years ago. The world wide change has affected the fragile scene in Toronto. NOW I dont know what some people are talking about but Latinos, always got into big fights so scratch that off the before they and now they dont list. Some of you people in here dont know the full story about the concerts before Sabor Nuevo and some of the new guys, Bet you didnt know that there was a ban from artists in Canada because of none payment. Latin artistshave driven up there prices, people in the states, south, central America you can even say Montréal are willing to pay more but Toronto isnt. All the banquet halls dont care anymore...They dont want nothing to do with concerts so they drove up there prices soo high. Prices of the artist goes up, and the prices for venue goes up but the Toronto market wont pay more. Some will but not enough for the promoter to make money or make it worth his or her time. Someone said speaking of ****ty promoters where is Sabor Nuevo.. This is the main reason why I left Toronto. Why build my mega club in Toronto when someone is going to just slap the hell out of the hand that feeds you. Why bring a concert to Toronto when some people are just going ruin it by spreading rumors. Why do anything in Toronto when there is no appreciation for the people bringing you the shows and investing a lot more then 40 dollars and 6 hours of one night. Promoters put 30 or more grands on the line. Invest over 200 hours to promote and put together the events. Then come and blame us for things that are out of out hands. Sabor Nuevo is still promoting events in Toronto and we still have are hardcore followers. As far as me opening a club or concerts in Toronto, I would much rather do it here in Costa Rica , Where the majority of the people appreciate more what a good promoter can bring you. Like I said before there is still a lot of good clients in Toronto, its too bad they have to suffer because of others.
haha bro u r jokes, I didn't want to say anything but i felt that someone should point this out to you......you said "I would much rather do it here in Costa Rica , Where the majority of the people appreciate more what a good promoter can bring you."
a good promoter can do it anywhere in the world here (toronto) or there (Costa Rica) thats y they are "good promoters" like u say it doesn't matter the place, if it was the way u say everyone would move to Costa Rica, don't u think?..... if we come down to numbers, of course u r going to get a better turn out down in Costa Rica where 99% of the population is latin compared to Toronto, where i say maybe 10% if not less are from a latin descent.
down in Costa Rica even if u are a bad promoter and get 1% of the population to come to ur events u will still do better than here, so please get off ur high horse and lets be realistic here.
don't compare apples and oranges.

There always has to be someone that completely misses the point. You dont have to educate me on the obvious. I am pretty sure everyone knows that in this country the majority of the population speaks Spanish. If you read what I wrote it talks about appreciation. There is a lot of hate and people always trying to bring you down. I am not like others that believe that toronto is a great place to launch a career in the entertainment industry. I am not going to beg for support, I will just find it somewhere else. I love toronto its my favorite city but not for my field.

I think your point of view is totally right. We are having big problems. Advertisement prices are too high, Renting a Banquet hall too expensive, radio station does not bring expected results, high percentage of latin events fails. Too many competition between clubs and also special events.
I think everything especially when it comes about business has up and downs, Right now the Latin scene is going through a downtime where the people that usually attempt to Latin events are not willing to pay much. One of the reasons is that not many people view the importance of supporting our promoters or any kind of business.
*I usually say, show you are proud of your Latin roots by supporting always your people, how you do that?Buy things from Latin store, go to Latin events, eat Latin restaurants, look for you Latin business, we all keep growing and getting stronger by working hard in any business field and supporting our Latinos from anywhere.
One of the biggest problems we have is that we do not have a good radio station where everyone fills to tune in. When you have a 12 daily hours of radio station with fun professional Fm quality, entertainment business will prosper and others as well.
I prefer die looking for options before giving up.
Reggeaton killed the Salsa-Bachata star. Salsa and Bachata and other real latino music used to be danced by people of all ages, and countries. Even just seeing people dancing latin music other than Reggeaton was a pleasure, reggeaton reminds every one about Reggae which is not a latin rithm.
HAA you are way off buddy....
as far as reggaeton killing salsa and bachata here...not at all..salsa and the rest of all that crap..merenuge bachata etc...still dominates whats left of the latin scene here...its soo obvious...goto the latin clubs and see how much reggaeton new or old they play compared to the same ol salsa crap....
how many reggaeton concerts have we had here compared to salsa ones?....ya point proven...
so the reggaeton has nothing to do with killing the latin scene here...it aint even big enough....
the reggaeton emerged and made a huge impact in the latin music scene in other places such as the states central and south america..
reggaeton has everything it needs to be part of a latin genre....bachata merengue salsa..bomba plena all in one mixed with reggae and hiphop... which is called evolution of music...
dont forget salsa being soooo "latin" has alot of its roots in africa...
i dont know were u r from man..when u said salsa bachata was danced by everyone of all ages and countries..
i can speak on behalf of ecua....alot of younger people dont like salsa or the typical cumbias...mostly the older people were always into that.... put on some rock en espanol ..or pop reggaeton...and see how they react..
bachata aint even all that in south america....go to argentina and see if they play that haaaaa
Well, I know an older couple who just came back from Cuba, they were expecting to listen to all that great cuban music but are dissapointed caused the entertainers kept playing cuban reggeaton, they say that also the other tourist didn't enjoy that show. This couple had a greater time when they explored the city and socialized with the regular folks who were listening to real cuban music.
I think young and older latin or other people in Toronto used to have more fun dancing to salsa, merengue, bachata and other styles. I didn't cause it didn't appeal to me that much thought ( I hate Bachata by the way)
I sometimes listen to salsa but what I really listen to is Rock and Pop in spanish since I grew up listening to it back in El Salvador.
Salsa and other rithms have roots in africa but also does rock, blues, reggea, calipso, and other music. Tego Calderon describes Reggaton as an : "Hijo ilegitimo del Reggae jamaiquino".
Young latinos look like they are trying very hard to be jamaican when they listen and dance to reggeaton, that's what I don't like about it and I'd prefer they went back to more traditional latin rithms. Not that there's anything wrong with reggeaton, it;s just a matter of being loyal to "our" music.
sorry I dont know toni tapia. I played there a couple of games ( maybe 5 or 6) . rafaga is sick .. see that is the difference i like mana type of rock ( enanitos verdes) . i think you are more into hardcore rock which is cool too
Oh no no I LOVE MANA!!!! I love the hardcore stuff too but I like poppy type rock too.
@Danny yes I remember all those groups and like them too.

i heard theres a huge hiphop scene in chile... and from the articles i read online...reggaeton is happening there
There is a hip hop scene in Chile. They also like reggaeton in Chile. When Daddy Yankee did El Festival de Vina the Chilenos went ape s h i t but it's still not on the rock/pop level. They will always be rockers first.
umm I m not sure if agree on this one. I was in santiago last year with a friend and I got the impression that cumbia was up there with reggaeton. I played in chile 79 and chile linda and it was all about the cumbia ...
I think deep inside everyone likes spanish rock because its chilling music .. I myself like spanish rock a lot but my first choice is still salsa.
First off you played for Chile 79? Do you know a guy named Tony tapia?
Back to topic YES cumbia is and always has been super popular in Chile and it's mainly because of the beat...Chilenos for the most part can't dance anything tropical to save their friggin lives so cumbia is easy and catchy and they LOVE IT. RAFAGA is still popular there for Gods sake. I would say cumbia is up there for sure same with in Argentina and it's more popular than reggaeton no doubt.
Spanish rock I love for so many reasons but not to chill out unless its a Mana ballad or something. I love going to spanish rock concerts and I like the crowd.

I am not convinced. Well I guess taste in music in Peru could be totally different than Chile and Argentina but I find it hard to believe. I find it hard to believe that rock and pop would not get more air time on radios, higher selling albums and more fans than Salsa/Bachata and reggaeton in Peru. Just as an example if you went into a high school in Peru are you telling me that girls are more into a daddy yankee of a jery rivera than a Chayanne or Luis Miguel...teens are the ones that usually determine what is popular.
1 bachata is almost non existance in peru . if you find bachata its because there is so much pirateria that you could even find paris hilton albums
2 radios in peru play all kind of music . same as here. If you are on the bus then you ll he hearing reggaeton and salsa. If you are at a bank you ll be hearing shakira , chayanne.
3 Rock has its all fans , same as here, rock will never die , it is popular but you are not going to find clubs for rock maybe bars.
4 Punk music is that music the is growin so fast in peru , so many bands ( peruvian bands) even my cousings have their own band
@Danny when are you going to realize that 25 isn't that young? Seriously!! There is a HUGE difference between 19 year old crowd and a 25 year old crowd or at least there should be
haaaa maybe in ur eyes... i can tell u dont go out much..look at the crowd at metro or privlige b4..the agees range from 10 to 28 even
Actually I do go out I just think Metro sucks and I was never a privlege fan...that is more becuase of the crowd...not age but quality. Seriously though 25 is not that young. At 25 guys are usually living on their own....in a semi stable job....etc. It's not like when they are still in school and stuff like that. It's not old either don't get me wrong but you make it sound like you are this young baby. I have younger friends and cousins and they agree with me about the latin scene here so it's not an age thing.
like i said b4 age is nothing but a number..it all depends on ur situation in life...i finished school..got a stable job..looking to move up or maybe do some courses down the road... my parents depend on me for rent and all the expenses...plus we r going to buy a condo or house down the road..
im single feel young and not thinking of settling down anytime soon or looking for it
Yeah, yeah... pat yourself in the back... Yuh dah man!
haaaaa keep proving my point fagget

it is very hard to know what the top selling albums are since la pirateria ( burn cds) its permitted in peru .. so noone really buys original , unless you have the money to spend ...
i ll find the links for concerts .. but when i was there i remember that jerry rivare, daddy yankee and some reggaeton artist were doing concerts
So do you think Jerry Rivera or Daddy Yankee do better in Peru than lets say Chayanne, Alejandro Sanz or Shakira just to name a few
WHERE IS MIGUEL WITH STATS WHEN YOU NEED HIM
umm yea but chayanne , alejandro sanz and shakira are in a different level .. they are like world wide famous.. it is like saying how many people will assist a pachuca vs atlatico nacional and then compare that to the amount of people that are going to assist a lets say barcelona vs real madrid..
But you can compare a el gran combo concert in peru . those are sold out for sure. jerry rivera is not in that rank of artist yet. but for you to know his concert did sold out.
Also chile you have to understand that the majority of perus population are not rich $$$ so they can not afford to go to these concerts ( salsa) all the time.
Furthermore if you compare the number of salsa concerts and reggaeton concerts in a year ( people attending to the concerts) in peru and then compare with the once a year shakira concert then most likely salsa and reggaeton add up together will do much better in numbers than shakiras

Lets agree to disagree until I can prove you wrong - lol
Ugh now I have to research stuff and I hate that
P.S where the hell did you get the idea that rich people like rock..that is ridiculous.

a good promoter can do it anywhere in the world here (toronto) or there (Costa Rica) thats y they are "good promoters" like u say it doesn't matter the place, if it was the way u say everyone would move to Costa Rica, don't u think?..... if we come down to numbers, of course u r going to get a better turn out down in Costa Rica where 99% of the population is latin compared to Toronto, where i say maybe 10% if not less are from a latin descent.
down in Costa Rica even if u are a bad promoter and get 1% of the population to come to ur events u will still do better than here, so please get off ur high horse and lets be realistic here.
don't compare apples and oranges.

I thought this line was the funniest
"why build a mega club here when someone is just going to slap the hell out of the hand that feeds you"
wouldn't the community be feeding him and not the other way around
Anyways there have been promoters in Toronto that have done it well.

it is very hard to know what the top selling albums are since la pirateria ( burn cds) its permitted in peru .. so noone really buys original , unless you have the money to spend ...
i ll find the links for concerts .. but when i was there i remember that jerry rivare, daddy yankee and some reggaeton artist were doing concerts

Like I said before there is still a lot of good clients in Toronto, its too bad they have to suffer because of others.

in peru it's mostly about spanish rock and latin pop as well.
sorry man but I been to peru 8 times the last 3 years and it depends on where you go.. most people listen to reggaeton and salsa
Spanish rock is also listened but not as much as salsa or reggaeton
latin pop is mostly listen in rich areas ( clubs) . But it we are speaking of majority salsa and reggeaton are up there .
REALLY?????? That is so strange I know a lot of people from Peru that travel there all the time and are not rich and say that rock and pop is the most popular in fact most people that I know from Peru are not into salsa or reggaeton at all.
@Danny when are you going to realize that 25 isn't that young? Seriously!! There is a HUGE difference between 19 year old crowd and a 25 year old crowd or at least there should be

Really? So perhaps the friends I have are rich and don't know it
I would be interested in seeing what the top selling albums and tours were in the last few years in Peru.
