Well it looks like the only way to be sure is to get it from someone that is an acutal viewsat resaler.....so u can get a waranty just incase something happens to it.

here is some more info about this.

Well. the story goes that parts for the viewsat branded receivers are made in China... They are assembled in Korea (by south Korean law, that's made in Korea) and sold/shipped to Viewtech for resale in North America.

Viewsat (Korea) which has NOTHING to do with Viewtech in terms of ownership, okayed the direct sale of the chinese made components in assembled form (assembled in China, therefore made in China) to a Canadian company called ovislink. These receivers came from a different batch compared to the Viewtech imported units. But they came from the same factory.

Viewtech tried to put a stop to the by trying to get the law involved in Canada, but Canadian law does not prohibit the sale of OEM products, even in violation of an exclusivity contract. Worse yet, Canadian law does not permit Viewtech from suing Ovislink. The only recourse would have been Viewtech suing viewsat... Like that was going to happen...

So Viewtech was fuming... Then mysteriously, programs for the Viewsat receivers started messing up many of the Ovislink units. (Though it also has issues with some Viewtech units.)

Sigh... it's never as simple as it seems... Sadly this current EC vs VT lawsuit may have been fueled by the clone kill software... personally I think somebody's greed painted a big target on themselves...

Im just wondering... for those of you who now have dead Ultras, which of you bought them on fleabay from skysat??? I have just learned that mine is a clone. The receiver's exterior looks very much like the original and I can tell they got really good at it. But once you open it up you'll notice right away that it is indeed a clone.

That is why I think he's been selling his Ultras for about $10 cheaper than all the rest. Now all the pieces seem to start coming together. Believe me, its really hard to distinguish the clone vs. the original just by looking at the box and receiver's externals. Eg. they copied the hole pattern of the original's underside and even the box itself looks legit(it says made in korea as well). You have to pop the hood and there you will see. Now I checked his listings and he stopped selling Ultras. Coincidence???

I am DEFINATELY interested - The thing with me is I NEED to get it installed by somebody who has a clue porque yo no soy muy inclinado pa' estas cosas. I am talking to a couple of people and looking at the different options for best deal... I don't mind paying the extra few dollars for the Ultra. + also looking at the High Def options... not sure if I want to pay double the price for HD, or if I even NEED to - there may be ways around it.. I don't know.

LG i went to the place i told you about yesterday and they have the viewsat boxes for $160. You can alway use the component out puts for you HD tv insted of the digital connection , they are the red, blue and green plugs on the back of your tv. This gives you a better picture quality than the regular yellow video input (composite) or the s-video the single black input with a bunch of pins on the end.

every receiver has the autoroll it changes the keys for u, the keys when they change they increment by 4 if u know how to calculate hex numbers u can do it with out looking for them on the internet.

@LG....Tell me about it the good thing about clones is that they are cheaper but if u install the wrong firmware u could burn the chip in it, but for u it shouldn't be a problem because u probably get someone to do it for u, me in the other hand, i do it my self so i don't want a clone so i don't have to worry about this stuff.

I've had it for a year and it has gone down twice, plus now I got the progamming i just have to know how to use it..

my reciver has the Auto-Rool feature which in sometime it fixes it self

yes i do but my is old and i need a new one, the one that i have at the moment is not being supported anymore so i have to be entering the keys everytime it goes down.

I've gone to a location they had before close to marlee and eglinton. its like walking into any regular store. everything is on display. Iam not sure how it is now though....

Yeah - no TV for so long, I am used to it... I don't hear much news and never know what's going on anymore.

But movies, I watch! It's fun to download the latest movies and just plug the laptop to the TV and see it on the bigger screen. biggrin

Yes, I think the Viewsat Ultra comes with the USB connector. No need to unplug your reciver in order to fix it. :) (This will save you some time for sure )

It really depends on the tpe of FTA receiver you've got. I used to have an old Pansat 2500 and it was hard to get fixes for it when it went down.
Some FTA receivers are supported better than others, what i mean by tha tis that the fixes can be foud online faster. I hear Viewsat is the best, I am getting it this weekend. The extreme version is going for about $155 right now.

sorry bro installing them i don't know but i do know how to program them back when they go down, every box is diff so it would take me time to learn a new one.

to install them u need someone that knows how to find the sat and the angels so u can get the signals.....that i don't know but I'm sure is not that hard.

Yeah - I guess it's a question of trial and error - pero no es ninguna cosa de otro mundo. I know a couple of people who have done their own without much experience (only experience helping someone else install a similar one).
