 I think engagement rings are the brilliant idea of the diamond industry.  Why the hell would I consider a diamond my best friend? Can I talk to it? No. Can I borrow its clothes and then never give them back? No.  Can I eat ice cream with it? No.  So what the heck guy??? Its not my best friend!

Engagement rings are more so a status symbol for those who care to believe in it.  I dont think that a poor man loves his wife any less if he's unable to give her a million carat ring.

And here's another question for you... why is the engagement ring so much more expensive and elaborate (in most cases) than the actual wedding band? Is the wedding band not more symbolic than the promise to marry someone?

The fairy tale behing the ring is what makes it so big. Because after you're married no one really oooh's and ahhh's about anymore. Puro hype. Mind you, i wouldn't change mine for the world.

I got one with my first b/f & yes it's stupid, I tell X to save his money now & put it towards my HUGE Lake ontario size engagement ring. laughing.gifsprint.gif

I think it makes more sense than an engagment ring
