The show was good. Joe Vasconcellos started the night. I had never seen him before. It was pretty good. Not my cup of tea...but I can see how people would like his music.
The Spanish Harlem Orchestra show was good. I was sooo glad to see that Jimmy Bosch was there. He's such a character. When he solo's the crowd goes nuts!!! He's a great performer. Also Ray de la Paz. What a throw back he is. Such a charming gentleman...and a great singer.
The highlite of the night....was when Toronto's own Luisito Orbegoso was invited onto the stage to play with the band. He traded solos with Luisito Quintero....and the people went wild!!!
I've seen the band before...and I must say...this wasn't their best show. The sound wasn't that good...and the songs they chose to play were mostly from the new album....so they were unfamiliar. I guess that happens to all artists promoting their new stuff....people always wanna hear the classics.
Son of a m@+h#rF@c*!n B!+ch!!!! I MISSED IT! I got off work too late and was mad beat and tired. I'm not gonna forgive myself for this....I'm gonna go to work and go postal now!!!!
......just playing but stilll....I f@c*!n missed it!

Spanish Harlem Orchestra is BY FAR the best SALSA band in the world right now.
Even if you're just a fringe salsa listener....you should attend this concert. IT'S FREE FOR BUDDHA'S SAKE!!!!
The band is stacked with musicians that have influence the sound of salsa for generations. Let me drop you a few names....
OSCAR HERNANDEZ - He has long been considered one of the most gifted and prominent pianist/ arrangers on the contemporary latin,latin-jazz and salsa music scene. Since its inception in the early 1980's, Oscar has been responsible for charting the musical course of the Rubén Blades Band.
Ray De La Paz - He has been singing for over 30 years. Ray has won an Ace award, two gold recorded with the best in salsa music, such as Ray Barreto orchestra, Guarare, Louie Ramirez. In addition to being recognized as one of the elite singers in the albums, a platinum CD and a 2004 Grammy award with the Spanish Harlem Orchestra where he plays an important part as one of the orchestra's lead vocalist.
Jimmy Bosch - He was hired by Andy Gonzalez to work with Conjunto Libre, heralding the birth of a prolific career and extensive discography, spanning well over two decades. Bosch has collaborated with the most stellar figures in Salsa including, Cachao, Celia Cruz, Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barreto, the Machito Orchestra, Rubén Blades, Fania All-Stars, Willie Colón, Oscar DLeon, and Marc Anthony.
Luisito Quintero - At an early age, hejoined the popular music ensembles Grupo Guaco and El Trabuco Venezolano, and traveled extensively with Oscar DLeon, where he enjoyed worldwide exposure. Luisitos live playing credits, projects and recordings are endless. He has embraced his percussion style working with the late Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Richard Bona, Jack Dejonette, Willie Colon, George Benson, Natalie Cole, Herbie Hancock, Nuyorican Soul, and Masters at Work to name a few.
Luisito has been an influential part of Louie Vegas Element of Life projects. Combining Afro-Latin rhythms with jazz and bossa nova sounds Elements of Life quickly became one of the hottest albums to hit dance floors from sea to sea. As well as being an inspirational influence Luisito is also a member of the Elements of Life band which has been touring for the past three years. The band has shared stages with some of the top artist in the business, such as Robert Plant, Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys.
Everytime I want to go somewhere, something always comes up- LB, why are they making this event on a Wednesday?! Most ppl. work, lol.
I love Spanish Harlem Orchestra. I have their cd (Across 110th Street) and one of my favourite songs is Dime Se Llegue a Tiempo and Escucha El Ritmo (I have a weakness for cha cha chas)
Anyway, LB, do you know of anything that'll be happening sometime in the summer @ Harbourfront, or Distillery?
PS. I was there on Saturday, I wanted to go to Ricky's concert, but we got the re @ 9pm, and I couldn't find the Fermenting Centre...so we just stayed @ the Mill St. Pub. How did it go?!
