IDENTIDAD - 2nd Annual Latino Youth Summit is Hosted by The Hispanic Development Council and supported by Parks, Forestry and Recreation- Access and Diversity Unit.  IDENTIDAD is the collaborate outcome of two events that took place in 2006: Youth Summit on Latino Engagement Hosted by the Hispanic Development Council and the Latino Youth in The Urban Village Hosted Parks, Forestry and Recreation - Access and Diversity Unit.  The 2nd Annual Latino Youth Summit is an opportunity for the Latino youth community to examining our multiple identities through multiple perspectives: social, gender, environmental, educational, entrepreneurial, artistic and cultural. 

 

            IDENTIDAD is an opportunity to promote a safe space where Latino youth along with other diverse youth can integrate and critically analyze the diversity of our identity as youth or as young professionals living in Toronto with our complex backgrounds.  The central objective of IDENTIDAD is to move beyond identifying the barriers effecting the Latino youth community and begin a process of strategy development on how to assure social integration, gender integration, environmental integration, educational integration, entrepreneurial integration, artistic and cultural integration in the Greater Toronto Area.

 

The summit will offer:

§         14 workshops given by youth for youth

§         Live Performances: reggaeton, hip-hop, folkloric, creole music and much more
§         motivational speakers,

§         Award Ceremony recognizing Latino youth Toronto

§         Free Dinner

As far as I know, though it is geared towards latin yoots and they'd be the ones who'd get the most out of it, anyone who has an interest on the issues that affect our young can atttend. Or anyone who's an immature pothead... so Daeveed, you're in!

@ Buggy: I'm not sure yet if I'll go... That depends on whether the youth I'm tryingt to drag with me wants to go or not. shrug.gif

If you guys have a chance to go to this, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO.
This is a conference that'll take place on Saturday (May 19) from 12:00 noon to 8:00 at City Hall. It's the Second Annual Conference of Latin Youth, put together by the Hispanic Development Council. The main theme will be identity. There will be workshops, performances, food, seminars. It'll be a whole afternoon of different activities all geared to Hispanic youth. And it's all FREE.
