mayweather is the best pound for pound boxer today, but that fight was all WIN for De La Hoya

Corrales killed in motorcycle accident

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Former two-weight world champion Diego Corrales died in a motorcycle accident on the outskirts of Las Vegas on Monday night.

The 29-year-old was one of the most exciting and popular boxers of his generation, famed for his all-action, brave and even, at times, reckless style.


He died exactly two years to the day since his finest moment in boxing, when he climbed back up off the canvas to stop Jose Luis Castillo in 2005 to claim the WBC lightweight title.


Corrales, who lived in Las Vegas, was killed in a two-vehicle crash, according to Las Vegas police.


He won world titles at super-featherweight and lightweight in a glittering career that saw him fight some of the best fighters around such as Floyd Mayweather and Joel Casamayor, as well as Castillo.


However he was remarkably tall for a lightweight, standing at six feet, and struggled to make his weight towards the end of his career, which ended with three straight defeats.


His career record was 40-5 with 33 knockouts.


His promoter Gary Shaw said of Corrales: "I am proud to have promoted one of the true warriors of the game. My heart goes out to his wife and kids. Boxing has lost one of the most exciting fighters in the ring."

and dammm what a ****ty fight

as i predicted mayweather runs away like a lil **** around the ring getting de la hoya all tired out and throws some shots straight in his face haha. Dammm was i sooo pissed...

and WTF i couldnt stop laughing when i seen mayweather 50 and his crew all wearing the mexican colours lol!!!!!!!! the nigga rocking a sombrero at the end......clap.gif 

 dissapointing and a nice way to end off el 5 de mayo

The big hype has to do with the fact that this is most likely De la Hoya's last fight. Mayweather is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers right now...and if De la Hoya wins.....it would solidify his career....even with all the bad fights that he was 'given' victory for.

To add more "drama" to the pot.....Floyd Mayweather's father...is Oscar de la Hoya's trainer. So there's that father vs son angle to the fight as well.

I think (I pray) Mayweather will kick the crap out of the 'Golden Boy' and put him and his career away for good!!!!!!

I, unfortunately, will not be able to watch this fight. Why can't people plan their wedding's around the sports calendar. hmm

I think De La Hoya has lost his edge over the last few years so he has quite a challenge in Mayweather who is undefeated and at his peak.

Basically the match is between one of the better fighters in recent history vs. one of the best fighters today with title belts on the line.  Maybe they should get married instead and have the wedding of the century.

I DON'T FOLLOW BOXING SO CLOSELY....SO CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THE EXTRA BIG HYPE ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC FIGHT ON SATURDAY, MAY 5TH?
