You must have heard about the recall that is being done on almost 90 brands (multiple products).

It doesn't seems that it is affecting Canada, it was only detected in the US but in case some will have cross the border, I am posting the link for you to check and make sure that the food you have @ home does not belong to these lots.

Massive Pet Food Recall
Friday March 16, 2007

A major pet food supplier is recalling some dog and cat foods after animal deaths were reported in the United States.

So far no problems have been reported in Canada.

Menu Foods, based in Streetsville, Ont., is pulling some canned and pouched pet foods from shelves in major stores including Wal-Mart and Safeway as a precautionary measure. The recall affects products made between Dec. 3, 2006 and March 6 at two of the company's American plants.

The company says it's done tests but can't figure out why one dog and a "small number of cats" south of the border experienced kidney failure and died after eating the food. Menu Foods supplies pet food to 17 of North America's top 20 retailers which is sold under the names Master Choice, Compliments and Select.

"We're not entirely sure what has happened," company CEO Paul Henderson said Friday.

"We've undertaken a battery of technical tests . . . and all of those tests have failed to identify any issues at all with our product."

The company started receiving complaints about its "cuts and gravy" style food in December 2006 when customers claimed their pets had fallen ill after eating the product. No direct link between the food and the illness was made.

Menu Foods hasn't yet specified exactly which products will be recalled, but it plans to list those items on its website Saturday.

If you feed your pet Menu Foods products and you're concerned about their health, the company has set up a hotline at 1-866-463-6738 that will start running as of 6am Saturday.

You can also view a full list of recalled products and other recall information on their website by clicking here.

Loquito, being the little posh b*tch that he is, only has food from the vet.  MediCal is not on the list.
