they are stored in a database. unencrypted... lots of people probably have access to them. including the staff at activeboard.com, and maybe the admins.
don't expect a level of privacy in email/postings/pms unless you do your own encryption.
Hmmm... interesting Shouldn't be allowed though If a certain amount of "privacy" is implied, it should be given Isn't opening mail (letter mail) a federal offence? (To quote Buffy: "there's a good chance I'm making this up") I wonder how/if it could be applied to "E"mail

I try not to PM very personal stuff (well, not anymore) And it would take a pretty uncrupulous person to do this... like reading people's mail I suggest you change you password OFTEN, and don't PM importany stuff, just to be on the safe side I wonder if you could sue if you caught them, or even TH (if they or their staff were doing it).... and I wonder if there's a provision in the privacy act that applies to this type of "privacy" or does it just apply to personal INFORMATION? bah! w'ever!

I've administered couple boards and the only way to access the PM is if you download the tables and "strip" them off...which is not a walk in the park, too much work to read some PM's, not even with the administrator user name/password you are able to read them...Now I'm talking about PHPBB board....but every board it's different
