Now to give my extremely valuable two centavos y'all.

Mmm the movie was alllllright. I understand that the moral of the story was to be 'acceptance', which is a good positive message HOWEVER, here is the problem that I had with the movie.

- as a 'hot cholo', buddy seemed extremely comfortable with the fact that he was a young gay latino, and not just any latino, a 'cholo'. Now, Im no expert in gay cholonism, but I think its safe to assume that if one were a gay cholo, that one would have an extremely difficult time coming to terms with it, and dealing and accepting it. I believe that this gay cholo would have hugemoungous inner conflicts within himself in regards to excepting himself as a homosexual. But in this movie, they made it out to be like nothing.... no inner struggles, not conflict of self, nothing.

- the pregnant virgin.... they couldve done that better. The whole father/daughter relationship could have been portrayed differntly, they could have come together at the end a little differently..... the ended was mediocre.

- The grandfather took in the outcasts and loved them unconditionally... but the way he went.... mmmmmm I dont know. Not dramatic enough for my taste.

And there you have it folks... my two shiney pennies

What's a cholo?

My co-worker came in last week raving about this movie. She said that the director, who was an american whitey, had a neighbour whose daughter had a quinceañera party and they copied the actual event almost frame by frame from the video of this girl. I assume he has absolutely no clue, no real insight from a real hispanic's perspective on growing up hispanic, so it's safe to assume that he's just an espectator with access to filmmaking equipment and with an invitation to his neighbour's daughter's quienceañera.

Cholos are the equivalent of the Mara Salvareras.

Latin american with Indian blood? so he eats curry tacos and pollo masala?

We saw the movie at our Blockbuster this weekend but it was out. Bottom line, is it worth renting?

@ Buffster: Could explain the lack of realizm in the movie.  If its seen from an Anglo perspective, I can see this movie making sense.

Maybe the whole movie IS about the gays in the movie and the whole quinceañera, pregnan-virgin dealio is a subplot to kind throw you off. Huh? Como la ves desde ai? You gotta think outside the box, Mister Sister.

So, in that light, you just watched a gay flick. EEEEEEEWWWWWWW.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I think I'd rather watch BANDIDAS now (Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek) - I hear there MAY be lesbian scenes... much more acceptable than gay scenes!  LOL

The gay scenes did not add anything substancial or were a real part of the main storyline... nothing against gay people - just not my cup of tea.  I preffer CAMOMILLE with lots of sugar or honey.

well then since you don't have anything against gay people why even bother mention it, I mean I don't see your point about the scenes, well now about your cup of tea with lots of sugar or honey make sure that you take it early and GO TO BED early so you can get a good night of sleep

Lo que? Maybe en español?

Watch the movie and you will understand what I mean – LOL.

OK, en ingles, para confundirte mas!

Actually it’s written in the back of the DVD – something to do with being a “pregnant virgin” – she had no action; but there was a consequence… Now don’t ask for more details and run  to Blockbusters or donde el chino!

Note To Self: Visit the nearest Rogers Video A.K.A. Pacific Mall near me soon. Check mark.

Speak for yourself!!!      I've seen the previews for it a couple of times.

I agree with God!!!  I begged my parents not to have one for me!!!!  I wasn't big on the Pepto Bismol fiesta!!!

Mira, otra que bien baila. Que no te gusta la atencion?
No? chingate entonces.

Ok, wait.  I must've re-read this sentence over and over again and I think I understand it.  In fact, I'm 100% sure I understand it but how does it pertain to me??

Bah!  I give up.  To eaches own.

THANK GOD! i was getting tired being the logical one.

There's no logic in having a giant pink Degrassi party which clearly is one big waste of money!!!

There's always logic when the party is for YOU.

Besides, at your wedding you have to share the spotlight with the husband. A quinceañera is yours and yours alone.

So the point is this:  Latinas are selfish, greedy, self-centred, attention seeking bee-otches!!!

  I'm ok with that.
