It's a good thing but i have to admit that I have the hardest time to put my seatbelt on when seating in the back. I always wear it when I am in the front though.

@ LG: umm nope they changed it ... so ummm the cop just wanted to scare you or wanted something else i dunno ...
Another release said this:
"This government changed the law to require everyone in a vehicle to wear a seatbelt," said Transportation Minister Donna Cansfield. "We also made it mandatory for all children to be secured in a child car safety seat or booster seat when travelling. Everyone in a vehicle must be buckled up or secured in the appropriate child car safety seat - it's the law." The law also makes it clear that only one person can use a seatbelt at one time - making it illegal, for example, for two children to be buckled up using the same seatbelt. Drivers are responsible for ensuring passengers under 16 years of age are wearing a seatbelt or are secured in an appropriate child car safety seat. Passengers 16 years of age and older must wear a seatbelt or could face a fine. Police officers may now request that passengers who appear to be at least 16 years of age provide their name, address and date of birth in order to enforce seatbelt violations. "The passing of this legislation is very good news," said Monte Kwinter, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services. "This year statistics show that in about 80 per cent of the fatal collisions, three or more victims were not wearing seat belts."
This must have been effective December 1, 1996!! Many years ago, a cop had stopped a van I was a passenger, seating at the back… some of us got off with a WARNING for not wearing seatbelt at the back of the car... Thanks for las noticias atrazadas!
Na uh!! before December 1st, 2006 ... anyone under the age of 16 had to wear a seatbelt ... however if you were older than 16 as long as you were in the back you did not have to wear one ...
Now you do!!
What one finds out at work LoL!!!
I was over sixteen when I got stopped, still got a warning… Maybe this was ALWAYS the law -my coworkers think so too!; but starting Dec.1/06, they are actually beginning to ENFORCE the law!??
P.S.: Can you check my Ministry’s website and see what interesting info you can find?

I know ... I found out because I was checking out the MTO website here at work ... What one discovers when one is bored ... I never check the site
Here goes:
One person, one seat belt
Effective December 1, 2006, in Ontario, every person travelling in a motor vehicle must wear a seat belt or use a child safety seat. The penalty for seat belt infractions is a fine between $60 and $500. Convicted offenders will receive two demerit points.
Drivers are responsible for ensuring that passengers under 16 years of age are using the seat belt or an appropriate child car seat proper
Police officers may request that passengers who appear to be at least 16 years of age provide their name, address and date of birth. These passengers may face a fine for not using or wearing a seat belt properly.
There are limited exemptions from wearing seat belts.
