I'm taking cue from Jaime and copying and pasting what Coco posted

Major parties

Three parties currently hold seats in the National Assembly:

  • Constitutional Liberal Party (Partido Liberal Constitucionalista, PLC) - is the governing political party of Nicaragua. The Constitutional Liberal Party is the political successor of the Liberal Party, a faction which has existed since Nicaragua became independent during the 1830s

  • Sandinista National Liberation Front (Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional, FSLN) -is a Nicaraguan political party founded on broad socialist principles. Their organization is generally referred to by the initials FSLN and its members are called, in both English and Spanish, Sandinistas.

  • Conservative Party (Partido Conservador, PC) - The conservative party is the oldest currently existing political party in Nicaragua

Daniel Ortega is now the President for Nicaragaua .

You can read on who is Daniel Ortega...which may cause a huge impact with reletions with the US :(

Ufff! El Salvador tiene so many pero estas dos son de las que me acuerdo mas, por las canciones y slogans that went on when i was younger...and probably still today:

The Nationalist Republican Alliance (Spanish: Alianza Republicana Nacionalista or ARENA) is a conservative political party in El Salvador. It was founded on September 30, 1981 by Roberto D'Aubuisson in order to oppose the reformist military junta that was ruling El Salvador at the time.

    Presente, Presente, por la patria!

The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (in Spanish: Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional, FMLN) is a political party in El Salvador that was formerly a revolutionary guerrilla organization that included socialist, communist and social-democrat organization. In 1980 the FMLN was formed as an umbrella group of five leftwing guerilla organizations to fight the Salvadoran government. After peace accords were signed in 1992, all armed FMLN units were demobilized and their organization became a legal political party.

    Pero primero el Salvador!

    Y las otras son:

    Saludemos! La patria orgullosos!!

OK, as a spinoff of DANNY's thread, i thought it would be cool to culturalize ourselves and learn about the different parties and Presidents of Latin America.

I'll start with mine, you can use it as an example to post yours.

    Chilean Political Parties

    Left Wing (also called Concertacion)

There are two main political parties here. The first one is the PPD (Partido por la Democracia), and it branched out as a more conservative section of the Socialist Party, the current president (Michelle Bachelet) is from the PPD (but she's really a Socialist).

The second, and biggest one is DC (Democracia Criatiana), this party is very neutral, but still identify themselves as a left wing party. They are highly criticized by the rest of the left, because during Pinochet's regime, they kinda hopped to the other side...

these two parties, along with other smaller ones (Communist, Socialist, Humanist, etc) form the Concertacion.

Right Wing (also called Alianza por Chile)

Here there are also two main parties. the first one is RN (Renovacion Nacional), and they almost won the last elections (with Sebastian Piñera). They are a right wing party, but with very liberal views. Their popularity is increasing quickly in Chile, since they kinda separated themselves from the Pinochet image.

The second party is called UDI (Union Democrata Independiente), and it's the most right wing party in Chile. They oppose to anything the current government suggests (foreign votes, divorce, change in voting system developed by Pinochet, etc.). They are very conservative, and many members of the Military support this party.

These two parties, form the Alianza por Chile.

    How about in your country?
