Damn! Does that mean I have to read it three times to get it? It was hard enough reading it once. Oh, well, I give up. I don't wanna be part of the 2%.

Speaking of Lahtina, can you please pass along a message for her? Tell her that I read Pedro Páramo and this was me reading and this was me when I was done reading

I don't know what happens in that book. I don't know who the characters were. I don't know if they were all alive or dead. Some of them (if not all) were actually dead and having tea parties from grave to grave and eavesdropping on each other's graves. I don't know who Pedro Páramo was, or whether he even WAS. It was just too out there for me, so I don't get why she likes it so much.

:special appearance by... me!!!:

Mwhahaha, it's precisely because of that that I like it so much. I don't want to be spoonfed a story, I like stuff that makes you think. The first time I read it I was like you though: but of course I was a teeny-wee bit tipsy so I'm excused! The second time I read it was like the first time and I probably got just as much as you did (which is exactly what is going on). It wasn't until the third time that I was like

The book is definitely up there in my top ten. I'm very much into stories that break the linear time scheme - just like Rayuela, for example. Now that's a challenge right there. You have to know Argentinian and French! I must say that knowing Dogo actually helped with my reading comprehension.

Anyway, back to Pedro Páramo (Juan Preciado's father DEAD father, actually) I absolutely love it. It's up there in my top ten. I guess Einstein was right, I do belong to that 2% elite.

P.S. Everyone in the story is dead, including Juan Preciado. Se murió de miedo, remember? Se estuvo retorciendo toda la noche.

Why don't you email her? Now you've made everyone read a post that was directed solely for Lahtina, wasting 17.4 seconds of their lives!!!

I guess I could have just told her but I thought I'd do the same.

I would like the 21.3 seconds of my life back please.  I would like them in small unmarked bills. Pls and spank u

@ Everyone else: I REALIZE I could call my momma myself, but she will be in different places throughout her trip, so she'll have to call me sometimes. Geez!

Oh, and we don't use bell, we use rogers.

I don't know if this is still available, BUT some years ago Bell had a card that you can use anywhere in the world
With preferred rates, and it came with a pamphlet with all the numbers you could call from pretty much every major city in the world. It pretty much worked/works like a calling card
All those calls would then be billed directly to your/your mom's phone bill

I don’t know what the rates are, and I doubt it would be as good as a calling card, but it's prolly better than calling direct
I doubt you can buy a card HERE to call from over THERE though

Wouldn’t it be easier if YOU called your mom with a calling card? I dunno, just saying

I remember those cards! I think I still had one up to a couple years ago when I cleaned out my room. Those things are like 20 years old, not sure they're still in circulation.

Doesn't TH.com promote their own calling card?  Try That!   lol

CICI is really good also.....

Or how about working out a long distance plan of 3 months with your phone company.....anything is possible now in days....ask to speak to customer service.....if BELL doesn't do it....try your cell phone company......

And why don't YOU call your mom from here?

here is what I know....

ur mom can't take the card to call u cuz the connection number are all in canada and yes even the 800 number... my mom took a calling card from here to Chile and when i got worry that she never called i did and she told me it didn't work. so the best thing to do is for u to call her

"la buena", es muy buena (lol :P) it gives u like 600 minutes to Chile and i believe it is really similar to other countries, the problem is I can't find it anywhere since last year...

"mi tierra linda" gives like 450 minutes... now to Chile it gives u the 450, but only 200 to mexico... ....

"GTA Exppress" gives u 340 to mexico... and so far it is the best one i have found... oh and since it is from bell it lets u charge money to ur phone bill, for example if u charge $10 it will let u talk just as if u have a $10 card.

PD: just to keep in mind it is better to buy 2 $5 cards instead of just one of $10.... it should give u doueble but it doesn't ...

All calls from Skype to landlines and mobiles within the US and Canada are also free till the end of the year.

Guys, I need to find out before thursday what the best calling card is to call from somewhere in Central American () to Canada? Do you know? How long do these cards last? Can I buy one that'll last four months? Or do they have a lot of minutes or something? Help!!! I really don't know!!!

If they have High Speed Internet, send them a vonage kit...and is like a local phone call.....I did it with my family.

It works like a local phone call..they can have a 905/416 number ....

I was just gonna suggest a VoIP service too!

Generally, these cards have local numbers that you can use in major Canadian cities, but I know SIFA (not sure about CICI) has a 1-800 number so you can use the card anywhere. You might get extra charges though, I'm not sure.

I use SIFA and CICI to call Chile.

A couple of differences:

SIFA: Advertisement shows it gives you a lot of minutes, but it doesn't, nonetheless, it still gives you a good amount. This card takes $.25 every week after it has been used for the first time, so I recommend you use this card if you know you'll use it up in less then two weeks. I think the first call cuts off by itself after 20 mins (but that's just personal experience, and I don't remember if it happened everytime)

CICI: Gives you a bit less minutage, but it doesn't take any money like SIFA. I buy this if I know I'm keeping it for a while.

Question, though, can I use the same card that I use to talk from HERE to there to call from THERE to here? Or are they different?

Since the call is to be made FROM Central America – I am not sure many of us would know… Most – if not all – of us make calls from here TO Central/South America... en el caso de Ecuador, I know they have "cabinas de telefono" where you can go and make calls to anywhere...

maybe you should specify WHERE in Central America you will be and perhaps someone who's come from or has been there can answer your question.
