@ Eddie

Any competition is always "a good thing" when done properly.....

Since you have seen how they did it in the past....and you have held one of the better ones with the 1 grand $ price, you obviously understand how it's done within the "latin DJ's".....then do another one...and be more creative this time.....of course, teaming up with Muevelo, Moet and etc....

why does sabor nuevo always have to come up!! we paid more then $500 for our last one we paid $1000.00 . The winner only had to for tops 2 hours in total...Thats 500.00 An hour, pretty good money! But i think this stuff is good dj competitions have been around for a long time. My dad has like 7 under his belt and i saw after that one with george davela, carlitos, victor, henry etc.

so its always a good thing

Last night was Saturday!!

We went last week (the 20th) and we plan on going again this Friday (unless DC's thingy falls through)!  Don't get too hyped though.  It's a lounge and relatively low key which I LOVE!!!!!   Plus since both El Pibe and I work Saturday, we usually bounce around 1:30am.

You down like James Brown????

@Phanta:  Oh honey bunny............I just don't want any ghetto fabulous people, or my ex, or any of my exes fanclub to know where I am, that's all!!  You're neither, so OF COURSE I'd love to see you there!!!  Let's all go and re-create the Mandarin experience!!!!!

@ LaDyBuG:    3 Latinos, and 1 of them is half Dominican...

if this ever took place i'd go... i went to the dj competition at the Guvernment 2 years ago.. 9 hours of raw & pure talent and skill under one roof...

latinos will never have somethin of this sort because they tend to not wanna pay up for a quality dj.

EXACTLY!!

So basically this would be a competition catered to NON-LATINOS.....with major media coverage and everything else you mentioned......

I SERIOUSLY doubt that!!!  The DAY the Globe & Mail of ALL PAPERS writes about some $2 DJ competition, is the day they'll lose all their "UP THERE" clientele!!!

Plus I don't think they're big on spelling and grammar mistakes either!

For example:

lastnight - should be TWO words

everyones - everyone's

drasticly - drastically

with is - with his

next years - next year's

and my favorite - "because by the time he was on, the crowd was already nice and rowdy by the cheaper drinks."

WHO WRITES THAT???!!!!  WHAT RESPECTED NEWSPAPER WRITER WRITES LIKE THAT???!!!  To even SPECULATE that this article was in the Globe & Mail is laughable!!!!

GET REAL!!!!!

As dumb as it sounds, I think an event like this could get alot of attention. It will probably reveal alot of hidden talents, aswell as others' inability. I've got some mad crazy ideas. If you're interested in putting this together HOLLA at me!

And if not, let me know when it is, 'cause I'm ready to murk the competition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scratching works for HipHop/R&B, reggaeton and music like that...and if scratching is what you want then why not open the competition to everyone and not only latin.

You want top notch latin DJs in Toronto.....then clubs need to start paying top $$$ for someone to dedicate their life and career around that....with what clubs and promoters are paying...if I were to dedicate my entire life around that...me morire de hambre!! How come Starting from Scratch is so good...probably cuz thats all he does!

The bottom line is that if clubs were paying what a DJ should be paid...I bet many DJs would be able to dedicate their time and money to becoming skilled and professional DJs. Many Djs I know juggle their lives around a fulltime job and then late nights at clubs y para que??? Pa que te den un billete que ni vale la pena...and all we get is criticism but no one understands the time and effort we put in to preparing for a jam.

You want top latin DJs...pay them so they dedicate themselves to only that. Only then will you find top notch Latin DJs...until then...we'll continue to find the scale of djs we have...

In that case then I change my answer to NO, I dont wanna see that.

Well said!

And I thank you for being the only DJ to answer this Question.....

Back in the day Latin DJ's were paid at least double of what DJ's get paid now....

And each club had its resident DJ....someone dedicated to Music and the club life.....and clubbing was so much FUNNER.....lol

i wouldn't say screw vinyl... it has its place, i mean a DJ can do a lot on a pair of 1200s. but yeah, the CDJ 1000s are really nice pieces of equipment and work pretty close to a turntable (heck they even have some interesting features like looping etc etc that you could use in a set and get pretty creative).

anyway for the travelling DJs (the big names) it makes a lot of sense to use these CDJs... carrying around huge (and heavy) crates of vinyl from airport to airport would really suck

what the heck is the point of a latin dj battle anyway?

see which DJ can put the 5 "hottest" songs together at a time?

the whole concept of a latin dj battle just sounds retarded.

Mega: there are a lot of DJs out there, not just in the latin scene. lots of DJs and few gigs. and yet most DJs outside of the latin scene actually know how to mix, and most of them don't make careers out of it, it's also something they just do on the side.

A PROMOTER WILL ALWAYS TRY TO CUT COST JUST OT PUT MORE MONEY IN HIS POCKET.....BUT ONLY A "REAL" PROMOTER WILL PAY WATEVER IT TAKES TO HAVE THE DJ THAT HE WANTS....
