c the thing is its not all about social class...for example in Ecuador even teenagers who don't have alot of money dress discent...i mean some pretty cool looking jeans on both girls and guys....i went over thinking and this was a few years ago that ok iam probably gonna stand out with some of my designer jeans...Boy was i wrong these guys and girls were wearing wicked jeans...cool shirts hats....both at clubs and just daily ...school etc..it wasn't just the rich kids wearing good looking clothes it was the middle class and less...wearing good threads..Now hear lets face it it is much easier to earn a good buck..and most teenagers can afford alot of their own gear...but see heres where the ghettoness comes in...they choose to buy the huge azz jeans down to their ankles..the huge azz shirts and eat them selves to lardness....so if u put dress code in affect for latin clubs here i think u are goin to have a very empty latin club..due to the fact that a huge azz % of latinos here are into the ghetto look

I agree with you that the fashion in Ecaudor weather ur rich or poor is a lot more easy on the eyes, not necessarily un-ghetto, just that we have diffrent ways of dressing or of styling.

I'm not a lover of any ghetto look or baggy clothes but the reason u don't see that in Ecuador yet or in other Latin countries is probably cus it hasn't hit as part of their fashion trend, it would take one guy/girl to start wearing it & make a fashion statement & I can garantee u will start seeing it. As much as I would be disaapointed about it, Ecaudor has tons of influnce from the states & there u se tons of that baggy style, it's only a matter of time.

In Ecaudor everybody has some sort of designer jeans, purses, etc. but the question is ARE THEY REAL or fake look a like??

Anyhow some latin scene here in TO is a bit too harsh.

Go to Baba's it's sooo much better. LOL

I remember back in the days when every spanish girl used to get dressed up to go to a club Jeans were just seen as ghetto and wrong at a club! I used to have so many dresses i mean clubbing dresses and heals when i was 17-20 going to La Classique, Social Club, Plaza Flamingo and the ones i was able to get into Sabor Latino a few times and it was all kinds of people from Gangsters (all dressed up) to High Class people! But then the whole fashion of Jeans came into play! I love jeans but now it seems sometimes if u wear a dress to a club your too dolled up! SO i think the "Ghettoness" we see is not so much based on class but on Fashion! A girl could be dirt poor but if she puts on the right dress (maybe even cost her 10bucks at Sirens) and Nice shoes (alibaba 3pairs for 50bucks) but she can make it work and look like a million without spending a million then boom instant change!

And i do agree we need more venues with strict dress codes! and Strict i mean you dont look it right u dont get in! Look at Copa in New York man you could have money but if u dont look the part sorry u aint getting in! at least five years ago it was like that!

hey genie, the thread started as a comparison between south american and local club scenes. we were explaining the differences, and why it's not actually fair to compare.

yeah i know i posted it in the wrong section i just said a screw it and left it!

lol only cuz i thought it was well written lol lol! sorry migue my head and mind are somewhere else!

I guess that is the reality in north american big cities...you got ghetto places and classic places (I mean where people dress in actrive look) to go clubbing.

It is the same thing here in Montreal where I can list some 'ghetto' club like Punta Cana night club, Tesoro Beach Club and some 'classic discoteca' like Club 737, Salsateque, Copacabana, Cactus, Club 6/49, La Rumba night club.

About english ladies dressing in a good looking way to go to an english club, I got to tell you some among them are wannabes and always with a smile on their faces that at times you wonder if it is a real smile or a fake one. In conclusion, it all depends of what you're looking when you go out, there's for every taste of there....There's 99 ways to party but you got to choose at least one !!!   WEPA!!!

Everyone have the right to wear whatever they want....and if you don't like a particular club...simply go to another one that you'll enjoy!

Don't rule out the possibility of it being Ecuador either. You might have seen other realities when you lived there. Remember that in South America, there are very different realms of reality, depending on the socio-economic environment that you're in.

I know the song sucks, I was just disproving what was posted above, because I thought it was inaccurate

I know up in the North we get "las bonitas chicas de Copiapo" in cervezerias de mala muerte but common... I been to club in the North and Centro de Chile and if we gotta say was it more low in the ghetto map i'll say centro cuz it just is... they don't dance like that either... but eh... maybe things have change maybe they do dance like that now

And I here Tdot is not that far from the video cuz gosh... as soon as hip hop and reggeaton plays is like a sex pool .... and I hate it cuz i love that music but dancing between all that ppl touch eachother like crazy monkeys is not fun.... specially if u r w/ ur pareja in a chillin'- innocent nite out...

@Daveed i saw the video & that kinda dancing probably exist every where, I've seen it here in clubs (both Latin & English), in NYC (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, etc), & for sure in South America. I wouldn't be surprised it was a clip from Ecaudor.

Anyhow I quickly read that original post & who ever wrote it is kinda sayin the Truth. I can say I've gone to see some pics posted in these latin club sites & garanteed I've thought the same: "OMG how ghetto" some look, if not a good majority. It's scary.

Hey, in my post I said:

which implies that it's become more accepted (with some exceptions), which implies i agree with you.

Yeah, you're right, Perreo seems to be a very new trend. I didn't see that either when I lived in Chile up to 5 years ago, and just like you, I moved through most of the social classes, i guess that one of the good things about being raised in a middle class environment, you get exposure to every side.

When I went back last year, I saw exactly what Miguel talks about (really good post by the way), and it's a bit shocking for someone who is used to how things are here to see that, but people there seem to take it very naturally.

In summary, in South America you're going to find whatever you are looking for, from high class "baller" parties in luxurious clubs and beautiful people, to poor (sometimes wilder) parties in crappy places where "higher class" people are looked at as just "a good source of instant income"...but of course, you won't see any of these people there, it's "wrong"....

anyway...like Miguel and Tupac said, it's just the way it is...

lets examine the differences between clubs in south america and the latin clubs here. this is not going to be politically correct but it's easier to just spell it out.

in south american spanish speaking countries, lets not deny it, there is rampant racism. countries are generally controlled by white elite minorities that discriminate against others (mixed, although to some extent everyone is mixed... indigenous, etc).

it is not generally looked upon well by people of your own socio-economic class for you to associate with people in lower socio-economic classes. when you go to the so called hottest clubs in south america, you are generally faced with door policies that reflect whichever country's prejudices. only people who fit the acceptable racial or social stereotypes are let in. the others are not. which is why you might go to a club in lima and see absolutely gorgeous white women everywhere you look (this does not reflect the fact that peru's large majority is indigenous). in south america you will see the lower classes dancing perreo or listening to tecno-cumbia or whatever. people of lower classes have their own clubs that they can go to (see the video posted above for an example). reggaeton was considered to be music only maids listened to in south america up until a few years ago. hell, tons of people still think this.

compare to canada: everyone is "equal" so to speak. the latin community here is composed of people from all over latin america and from every socio-economic level, and we are all forced to mix. what your situation was like in your home country doesn't translate well into a place like Toronto. If you were well off in south america and you were used to partying/being around certain types of people, you're going to go to latin places here and it's definitely going to be different. different music, different people, etc.

and that's just how it is.

You know what, just blame the Club Owners to not impliment a strict dress code.

If there is one, then blame the Security for not enforcing it.

It helps filter out the crowd.

Or mabe we are just getting older.

One thing i think alot of us latinos who have had the chance to go back to South America or Espana can agree the clubs and bars there are amazing compared to here. I mean style and just atmosphere. I know we can't really compare but at least the ghetto scene is not seen anywhere there.

Latin Scene in TO

Is it me or does almost 95% of every latin club crab...By crap i mean ghetto with lets just say not very pleasing looking people. I mean if you look at the pictures here on Torontohipano of Privilege, Guvernment, El Magnate, Plaza Flamengo etc...alot of dudes think their bad **** with their gang sign posses and stuff. Even the girls thinkin their all that when the majority are over weight and dress like hoes...Now if you look at some of the english clubs now their you see some nice ladies and even if they were skanky clothes they pull if off...just i mean they look good...One thing i think alot of us latinos who have had the chance to go back to South America or Espana can agree the clubs and bars there are amazing compared to here. I'll admit the latin scene here was better before back in the day now its crap and getting worse.
