i finally got through and i spoke to my cousin who was a wreck...she told me that the first flight was supposed to be hers but she had asked her best friend to cover for her because her daughter was sick...and she watched in horror as her best friend died on the flight that was supposed to be hers...

Holy shi-ite, and they say there's no destiny. That's quite a story. Reminds me of the latin guy, I think he was dominican, who worked at the towers and he called in sick that day so he survived, only to die in a plane accident like a month later while travelling to the dominican. Or something like that. Did you guys hear about that one?

i was in my OAC drama class and one of my teachers came running into the room and yelled that a plane had gone inot one of the towers.  we all jumped up and went ot watch the only tv with access to CNN.  we had to use coat hangers to get reception though.

regardless of its "size" (relatively minor compared to the casualties in wars or genocides, although definitely one of the most well executed and large scale terrorist attacks in history) 9/11 is a defining moment in history, this is why it is so important. the effects and ramifications of 9/11 will be felt for a generation. Even if they end up getting Bin Laden, there are thousands of bin ladens out there and they will not give up.

i think what some people tend to forget (due to disagreement with Dubyah's policies, and whatnot) is that the world is in a pretty tense situation right now. bin laden (and his men) genuinely believe that Allah has ordered them to kill. they will not stop, they are patient . 9/11 was only the beginning. these guys are willing to wait as long as they need to before striking again. they are very meticulous

i don't agree with Dubyah on mostly anything (except maybe the immigration legislation he tried unsuccessfully to push through), but the fact of the matter is: we are in this situation now, like it or not. the ****storm in iraq, the increasing problems in afghanistan (which we are actively involved in), israel.. palestine.. lebanon...

the threat of terrorism is everywhere (including here). i can't claim to have all the answers, but you can't deny the importance of 9/11, it was a wakeup call to the world, yes.. tanzania and kenya.. yemen.. these attacks were not flukes. and then after 9/11, indonesia, madrid, london, etc. we have a problem and we have to find a way to deal with it, what is frustrating me at this point is that there is no end in sight.

i for one think it is important to remember this day, if anything, to bring focus back on these issues, so that we can deal with them with renewed energy (and possibly insight)

I agree with LB except for the part where it made BabyBush look like an idiot. He was doing a very good job making himself look like an idiot until this happened and he went all cowboy and his approval rating shot up like mad cause he got on TV all John Wayne like talking about how they gonna get them and all that mess. Then he used the attacks as an excuse to further his agenda and launch attacks on Iraq. There are some that believe that the US planned the attacks in order to justify this Iraq thing but I dont believe it. Even with its history of blatant disregard for human life, the US dont kill its own, they only mass murder people in other countries. I do believe they saw the 911 thing and a little bell inmediatelly went off in the people who run the country's head (not bush, the people who actually run it) and they were like...... this is our ticket right here, we can use this to justify fukcin Saddam up, that'll teach him to hold oil from us!

I was in GDL, entering the cafeteria in the building before getting to work.

I saw something getting into one of the tower on tv, high and far away from me, and I thought, one of those stupid private guy that think that because he got his license he knows how to fly, specially in a city !

So I went upstairs and my co-workers hield/yield (spelling) at me "Julie......Julie, you won't believe it come over". He did scare the shiat out of me, I thought something had happened to a member of the team (we were VERY close), he pointed out the tv and I couldn't believe what I saw, the second plane was just getting into the 2sd tower.

It was a very strange day, nobody really worked, customer were getting crazy because, airports were closed, etc....

I was working at a summer camp in Boston (2 of the planes took off there),  suddenly everything went crazy, hundreds of police on the streets, the T was closed and the big buildings were evacuated too...there was a lot of confusion in the downtown area. It really blew up my mind since we were there the previous weekend , walking around Wall street and lower Manhattan and window shopping at the fancy stores located at the ground level. It was like watching sci-fi,I didn't believe it until I come back a few weeks after.

I agree with sis on this one :imstillmadbythewayLOL:.  The states pretty much had it coming.  Obviously you do feel bad for all the lives that were lost, and no one is justifying the actions, but they are milking it too much.

I was at work and one of the secretaries got a call from her husband telling her about it.  At first we all shrugged it off as an accident, cause that's what it seemed like.  And then people just started calling in to the office asking us if we had heard the news, etc.

Not everyone deserves to be a holiday (I.E.: First Trip to The Moon, many natural disasters, many wars, etc) Heck - It is something that will always stand out and certains dates will remind us of these events and will be forever ingrained in our minds.  It is a day to to respect and remember history - but your 5 minutes of silence will do.. no need to make it a holiday.

Believe it or not what Confu's saying is not so far-fetched, especially considering how much a national holiday would help Americans spread americana propaganda. The fact that this is so recent and it's still fresh in our minds would weigh even more on the case. I just don't think this will become a Canadian national holiday, but it could very easily become an American one. Or who knows about Canada anyway. We're still celebrating Queen Elizabeth's birthday...

I'm intrigued though....what has happened far worse than the 9/11 attacks???  We can't compare this to WWI and WWII obviously but I think 9/11 hit harder because it happened in our generation and in our neck of the woods.  Let's not talk about missiles and suicide attacks.  This was the most well thought out plan and it happened all under our nose!!!  This was no ordinary attack people!!!  FOUR freaking PLANES!!!!!  I think some people have underestimated this tragedy.

A little comparison just by numbers:
In 9/11 about 3,000 people died-- almost 300 of those were foreigners.
In Rwanda 800 thousand to one million people died in 1994 in a matter of 100 days. It just didn't happen in our "neck of the woods" and it wasn't a natural disaster.

Granted... so let's use something comparable... the Pearl Harbour attack.  December 7 - not a national holiday... the same amount of people died (approx 3,000).

@Confu, how ppl justify making a specific date a national holiday is based on that nation.  If Australia wishes to name the date of his death a national holiday then so be it.... i don't necessarily agree with it but that's just me.  Same thing with Sept 11, if people want to name is a national holiday, go on ahead but I dont think its necessary.

hmm... I don't think that this requires a national holiday.   That's a little much.  If that were the case, then why isn't Remembrance Day a national holiday (only government employees get this day off). Or any other day where a disaster or crisis has occurred.  If anything Sept 11 should remain a day of remembrance but not a holiday.

ARE U KIDDING ME?? HELLO!! DID U FORGET THAT WERE TALKING ABOU THE YANKEES AND THEY LIKE TO MAKE EVERYTHING A BIG DEAL!!! ANOTHER REASON THIS SHOULD BECOME A NATIONAL HOLIDAYS IS BECAUSE NOT ONLY HAVE YANKESS DIED BUT MANY TOURIST HAVE DIED.... DONT YOU THINK THIS WOULD SHOW SOME KIND OF RESPECT FOR OTHER COUNTRIES??

are you kidding me?  So 'cause some Yankees died this should be a national holiday?  That makes no sense.  Ok, if you make a comparison to other disasters, like let's say Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, where thousands of people died, were left homeless, a city in ruins, why isn't this a national holiday?  Your reasoning makes no sense.

NO ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? KATRINA WILL NEVER BE A NATIONAL HOLIDAY BUSH DONT CARE!! HELLO.....

A certain promoter and I were dating at the time and he called me from school to tell me to turn on the tv.  When I tuned into CNN, I was in shock and asked, "Is this the preview to a new movie or something?"  I had no idea what was going on and, avoiding my dad's warnings, took the subway to someone's school.

Although, I do agree that if this becomes a national holiday then Rememberance Day should become one as well.

I'm not saying to keep squeezing blood out of the stone, though.
