talking about it so that someone else does something.. that doesn't sound like a great thing to me.  Is that very ambitious?  I agree that it's the small things.. like not adding fuel to the fire.  An action does not conctitute a hughe effort or alot of time.  Sometime it's as simple as adding your name to a pledge list for poeple in china who are being killed for practising their religion.  As simple as writtting a letter for amnesty internation.  Action speak louder than words.  In this case the thought does not count.

you as the consumer make the conscious choice of what you want to hear, read and learn about.  You alone make the decision what to feed your brain... Toronto Hispano Foro or Habitat for humanity web site??? Neither is wrong but ultimately you are the only one responsible for the choices you make.  It was your choice to watch that show and not George Lopez, friends or what ever is on the particular day.  Now that you’ve made to choice to watch and learn about it.. what are you going to do about it?  If you want to change the world you are the only one that stops yourself from doing it.  The important thing is to think about things and act.  Stop reading about it and do something about it.  There are hundreds of people out there that have next to nothing yet risk their lives to make a point, and here we are with all the luxuries in the world and we can’t even take the time to find out who is doing something worth while out there.  It’s a never ending battle in me, I want to do yet never get around to it, and in this case the thought does not count.

It is true that only we decide what to read/watch/listen etc,.. and we will never change the world,. but we can do a lot for ppl around us,. to make a difference to them,.. to help,. there is not need to make HUGE things,. of course soem ppl are doing it,.but that s the result of years of work,. and the situations they have been through,..For me thoughts count of course no more than actions but your thoughts should be the gasoline to move yourself and do something good for our society/family/ co-workers, etc. every day. And keep reaidng about at least you would have  a lot of things to talk about and if at least one of those things move someone to do soemthing about it,. your reading is worth it,..

There aere a lot of people who inspire every and each of us every day (@home, work, school , etc) . Unfortunately as Bellini said the MEDIA doesn't give cover to those stories tha will give as a example of trying to make a difference in this society. But who is more guilty, the MEDIA or the viewers. We are the ones watching the gossip etc, for us that is entertaining, I don't think is wrong until certain extends. We need to give time to know more about people who are making a differnence in this world.

I understant what you mean! Unfortunately the media exposes more gossip then important stories! There are many people that should be exposed of more, for example i think Mukhtaran Bibi is an inspiration for women in Pakistan. Her brother was walking with a girl from a higher class and that's something that is not allowed in their village. As punishment, the Village court ordered that his sister be raped. People that have gone through situations like her, either commit suicide or their families will kill them. She instead took those men to court. She has now opened up a school for girls. She has become a skilled organizer and a trusted leader. Also a figure among women who are trying to escape violence. After trying to get justice, she still in danger from people who think she is a danger to the nation's image and social order.

I think she is brave for trying to get justice and helping out other women, in a country that doesn't accept these sort of things from women.

So I'm watching this story on this guy, Stephen Lewis (http://www.stephenlewisfoundation.org/). He's Canada's United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa. His father was the co-founder of the NDP party. He's quite an inspirational, charismatic character. Even Clinton speaks so highly of him. If you hear this guy speak, it'll give you chills. He's really passionate about his mission. In August, he had a gathering for African grandmothers as an homage for their task of raising the thousands of african orphans whose parents have died of AIDS.

Watching his story also made me think how sometimes we admire/worship the wrong people. Here we know everything there is to know about Brangelina, Tom Cruise and his daughter's poop, and this guy I'd never heard of, until I watched a show that probably 30 people in Canada watch. Sad, but true.
