I DO HOLD DOOR 4 OTHER PPL, BUT SOMETIMES THEY DON'T EVEN SAY THANK U, OR EVEN LOOK AT U, U ARE RIGHT MANY PPL NOW HAVE NO REGARD 4 OTHERS WELL BEING, JUST AS LONG THEY FEEL GOOD THEY DON'T CARE IF THEY BUMP U OR HIT U WITH THEIR BACK PACKS THEY JUST KEEP ON WALKING. I THINK THE GOV. SHOULD IMPLEMENT A CLASS IN SCHOOL CAUSE MANY PARENTS DON’T TEACH THE BASIC THINGS 2 THEIR KIDS.

Definitely MOST people have lost there manners. At least 90% of ppl have including me...I'm respectful to some degree (there goes that word again). When driving no one puts there signal light on no more...biggest pet peeve!! Dumb as5es cause accidents like that Or holding the door from walkin in/out of the mall and the dumb mofo doesn't say "thanks". I always repeat it to them nice and loud. Or fools that stand in the middle of a passthru where many people walk by often. People on the phone...that simply can't say good bye or thanks on the phone. There like "yup/a huh"
I hate that, so I always say YOU'reWELCOME, like you nice and loud and in general the person is sooooooooo embarrassed that with a nice smile they "oh, sorry, than you"

I think that should give you a clue as to why people did NOT stop. In this case, I don't think it was a matter of respect (manners), it's about common sense and safety.
I don't normally give up my seat, not a lot of people on the buses I take and one the one that is crowded, there are plenty of men that give up their seats. In Mexico, however, I was always courteous on the bus. I think I'm plenty courteous here too. I even let cars go ahead before me while crossing the street. No, wait, that has nothing to do with manners, it's just that I lived in Mexico too long.
