Well... evacuations indeed seem chaotic. The Israeli warplanes have bombarded the main road from Lebanon to Damascus cutting off the route, they've bombed Beirut's international airport. As mentioned before, the most likely route for evacuation is by sea but the Israeli airstrikes impede docking of the ships.

Thanks, I haven't listen to the news since last night.
BTW, see why I think it is important to get registered with your Embassy when you live in a foreign country, any country ? Of course, being on vacation is something different, but it is far from being the majority of the 40k Canadians estimated.

Thanks, I haven't listen to the news since last night.


BTW, see why I think it is important to get registered with your Embassy when you live in a foreign country, any country ? Of course, being on vacation is something different, but it is far from being the majority of the 40k Canadians estimated.

I don't see that region really changing while israel remains in its current form: a jewish-majority state, surrounded by hundreds of millions of arabs, and with 3.5 million disposessed refugees at its doorstep.

An increase in the israeli arab minority from it's current 20% would be interesting. Time will tell, but I don't think the current israeli zionist policy is sustainable in the long term. Israel will be a binational state, or it won't be.

It can't happened but "regional wars" or "civil wars" have been around for ever and it seems that in the past few decades there was a lot of activity in different parts of the world, not just Middle East.


It very sad but I guess we will never be able to live in harmony ever, doesn't mean you have to like everybody but that doesn't mean you can't be polite, educated and respect the others.

And since Beirout airport is closed, it's going to be worst. Getting buses I guess to one of the "closest" country and then charter flight them, pffft. A real headache, poor pple, all of them.

I'm not sure how they're going to manage to evacuate the estimated 40 000 canadians in the country.

Other countries are having as hell of a time just evacuating a few hundred.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - A host of countries were evacuating their nationals from Lebanon on Monday to escape Israeli air strikes which have pounded the country for six days.


Canada was preparing to evacuate its citizens, Foreign Minister Peter MacKay said after seven Canadians were killed in Lebanon on Sunday.
