 I used to do that back home, it was very funny.  The only difference was that the fireworks we used exploded inside a home made tube and again in the air ( or close to whoever was on the other end) but we actually knew how to aim above their heads.

 There were also other little missiles that were really dangerous, i didn't used those cause some exploded on people hands, but some guys used to play wars against other ones.

 We also used to wake up neighbours at around 2:30 am(dec 25,and Jan1) by placing a humongous tnt like candle inside those city water drains, the echo was just beautiful
