I personally do NOT like racoons – specially when they come and mess up the garbage in my backyard and I have to clean up after they – somehow – manage to push the lid off the garbage can, throw the bin on the floor, break the garbage bags open and mess it all up… I so hate them when they do that!

Having said all that – I don’t wish them any harm… I just want them not to mess with MY stuff or pee and leave their stink in my area…

Nice of you, Chiquita that you took the time to have the injured racoon “taken care of”.

Thank you... Animal Services don't seem to do much these days... quite disappointing actually.

Humm I was just talking racoons last night.  I can't say what was said due to the confidentiality agreement but I was talking racoons.

This morning we found a raccoon badly injured in our patio, he was hiding in the bushes. We noticed that he was bleeding and he had lost one if his paws. Since our patio is connected to the street we assumed that he was probably hit by a car and ended in our patio when he was trying to escape.

We decided to take some action and called:
Toronto Animal Services at 416-338-7297. You won't believe what they told us:
…. they couldn’t rescue him and if he lost one of his paws he could survive with the other three... I was in shocked to get that answer especially from an organization that deal with animals. He was really injured and needed assistance otherwise he was probably going to die.
We called other organizations that deal with animal protection and all of them told us that because he was inside a private property they were not able to help us.
We were really upset about the reaction and the lack of assistance but finally we reached the Toronto Wildlife Centre and they were very helpful and in less than two hours came and rescued the raccoon. They told us that he was seriously injured and they were going to take care of him.

Oh my God........I would've burst into tears if I saw that!!!    I always have kitty food in my car so I can leave it for a raccoon if I see one!  They love it!  I know it's bad but I LOVE raccoons!!!

Thanks for the heads up!  Definitely a worthy cause to donate to!!!!
