I personally have tried to get more money for gigs.....but promoters DON'T wanna pay.....so with no gigs the artists don't get to perform and other step in and offer a lower price.....causing the extinction of the artist before that one.
This happened with a certain band who will remain nameless...
FYI for the unedumacated:
A typical Latin musician gets paid anywhere from $80 to $100 per gig.....
If you consider the 2 rehersals, private practicing time, gas expense, traveling time, the 2 hours they perform, on a night of 4-5 hours wasted or spent at the club.....$100 is NOTHING....it's barely enough to cover their expenses & time.....so no profit has been made....therefore musicians are almost always broke and will just settle for playing for the sake of "loving the art"....and promoters take advantage of this.....especially when they have the GUTS to ask for a discount......just so they make an extra couple hundred a night.....
It's a complicated thing.....and everyone is out there watching out for their own business.....
@ Baina....you just gave me something to inquiry about.....

Everyone get's raises......usually annually....to compensate for the inflation that occurs in the economy. Food prices go up, gas prices, insurance, etc.... I just got to thinking that I've been getting paid the same amount of money for doing shows since 1997. Should the pay scale for artists and entertainment not go up as well.....to refelct the current economical status??!?!?!?!?
Yes, definetely!!
Also we should get free tour buses, and loads of groupies. Not to mention the free drinks and drugs....
While I agree with you 100%, I don't see it happening until there is an Artist's Union or some organization like that in Toronto.
Yeah Baina! I think you're right!!! You should get paid more to refelct the changes in the economy!
LOL you're too much.
Unfortunatly I don't think artist fit in this category of pple that gets raised to compensate the inflation. Isn't it usually by contract, which gets re-evaluated every end of terms or something.
