I just want one for music listening purposes... Thanks guys!  -- Edited by Jade at 14:23, 2006-05-16 Hi Jade. An iPod and any other "mp3 player" (i.e. samsung, sony, etc..) will play mp3 files. you have to think of it basically in 3 different realms 1. Sound Quality: If you play an mp3 on an iPod or on a Taiwan made **** mp3 player, the audio quality will be exactly the same (given that you use the same headphones), that's the good thing about digital music. However, when you buy an iPod, the quality of the headphones is very good, therefore it sounds better. But ig you buy any cheap mp3 player, and get really good headphones, there will be no difference in audio quality. 2. Design:  The iPod is the most popular mp3 player around, because of its design. Many other mp3 players come in different designs and sizes (yes, there are smaller than the iPod), but for some reason, the white, rectacular shape, with the gray circle below the screen, has become an icon for many. If you are not too concerned about the design, then it would make no difference whether you buy an iPod or any other mp3 player (P.S. whichever you buy, make sure you know how you use it!). 3. Storage capacity. Every mp3 player has a hard-drive in it, where you can store the mp3 files. The iPod (depending on the model) has up to 60Gb of storage in its video model (correct me if I'm wrong). That is A LOT of storage capacity. If an average mp3 size is 5Mb, then on a 20Gb iPod, you can store around 4000 songs (do you know 4000 songs?). With 512Mb of storage, you could store around 100 songs.   Also, another thing worth mentioning is the interface. Most mp3 player interface with the computer via USB port. Make sure you know what king of interface your mp3 player uses when you buy it.     I hope this helps.

Awwww thanks Daeveed!! Your my hero! That was so clear and concise...I really did learn from it!  Well Ill watch out for your key points! Thanks again!

Hi Jade.

An iPod and any other "mp3 player" (i.e. samsung, sony, etc..) will play mp3 files.

you have to think of it basically in 3 different realms

1. Sound Quality:

If you play an mp3 on an iPod or on a Taiwan made **** mp3 player, the audio quality will be exactly the same (given that you use the same headphones), that's the good thing about digital music. However, when you buy an iPod, the quality of the headphones is very good, therefore it sounds better. But ig you buy any cheap mp3 player, and get really good headphones, there will be no difference in audio quality.

2. Design:

The iPod is the most popular mp3 player around, because of its design.
