I went to see AC ROma vrs Celtic at the Skydome, and I was happy to see and experience a european feel once inside.
I though there would be more italians than scottish; but it was all the opposite, some had come from the states, and the place was full.
Eventhough Celtic lost, the Scottish fans continued partying and chanting their celtic songs. ME and my friends just shouted...Gooooolllllllllll when Totti scored(just to have fun), not even the italians dare to do so because they were out numbered.
I think the Canadian Soccer league should hire international players in order to make the games more interesting. The USA league even has a USA CHIVAs ( named after Chicas de Mexico (Guadalajara I think)).
Parties kick in cash for stadium 'New beginning for soccer:' Pipe FIFA tournament kicks off next July Jul. 5, 2006. 01:00 AM MORGAN CAMPBELL SPORTS REPORTER
A few dozen politicians, soccer officials, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment execs and some University of Toronto soccer players gathered at Exhibition Place yesterday for an announcement: the local, provincial and federal governments had agreed to fund a 20,000-seat soccer stadium on the site.
David Caplan, Ontario's Public Infrastructure Renewal Minister, called the occasion the "official launch" of the stadium's construction.
It didn't seem to matter that the stadium has actually been under construction since winter. As Caplan stood on a podium announcing the launch, the stadium was already taking shape behind him.
And it didn't matter that the governments and MLSE pledged the money months ago — $27 million from Ottawa, $8 million from the province, $9.8 million from the city and $18 million from MLSE.
The stadium will host part of the FIFA World Under-20 Championship next summer.
Yesterday all parties involved signed a "contribution agreement," committing them to pay the money they had already promised. It might not sound like a new development, but the Canadian Soccer Association found it a reason to celebrate.
"I don't want to sound melodramatic, but after having slogged through this for years, this is a new beginning for soccer in Canada," said Kevan Pipe, the CSA's chief operating officer.
He says the stadium is part of a soccer resurgence that will culminate in Canada qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.
"Is (the stadium) going to be a cure for all the things that are affecting the game? Of course not. But it's one heck of an injection into the soccer system in Canada," he said.
In addition to the FIFA tournament, the yet-to-be-named stadium will host games in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and is a big part of Canada's bid to land the 2011 Women's World Cup. Canada's men's national team has also agreed to use the stadium six times a year, Pipe said.
But the U of T has no arrangements to play at the stadium, even though several Varsity Blues soccer players posed for photos after the news conference. Parliamentary assistant Peter Fonseca told the gathering he hoped the Blues would be able to play there, but an MLSE spokesperson confirmed the school and the stadium don't have a deal.
When the FIFA tournament kicks off next July 1, Toronto FC of MLS will already have played several home games there.
"You don' t want to open up for a world-class event without a trial run," said MLSE president Richard Peddie.

I'm actually excited that they have this pro soccer team in the city now. Toronto is a major multi-cultural city. There is no sport like soccer that is "world" renowned. I agree with Mark...toronto has 3 major sports...hockey, hockey and hockey..lol...BUT..that's CANADA...we're talking TORONTO...much more multi-cultural then let's say...Newfoundland?..lol
I hope this goes well because I love no other sport BUT futbol. I would love to go watch a Toronto FC game...Especially when the Chivas come to town!!!

@ MM & Baina: Long story brothers, but really after playing soccer for the Canadian program it was Politics (soccer) that took over and on top of all this I torn my ligaments on my right ankle at a tournament in D.C and man did that ever put me out. It took 1 yr and a half to get back to 100% by then the Canadian Program forgot all about me "Like one of trainers said YOU ARE DAMAGED GOODS now" So I went on to play for C.P.S.L (Canadian Provincial Soccer Leagues) and also the spsnigh leagues around T.O.
It's very diff now to actually go pro here in T.O, USA is the place were you can go places.
NOw, being so busy with my career and dj'n/promoting I play when I have time but I LOVE THE GAME bro and I will play it until I can't no more.
@Genie: Sorry babe, that was a bad game but I did score a goal. lol + the video was back in 2002/2003

But you fail to realize that all because there is a pro team here in toronto....it doesn't not mean that the players will be from Toronto. So technically.....you can look up to any other team as well.....with that same desire to become pro.
Lame? No.. some do it for fun or for a scholarship to a prestigious university in the US and become a doctor or engineer. And I haven't failed to realize anything... are there equal number of US hockey players playing for the American teams in the NHL? Nope... 80% Canadian if not more.
But the fact that a city or country has representation in that pro sport makes the dream of playing at that level more desireable and more attainable regardless of what city they end up playing for. Cricket is a huge pro sport in the West Indies.... do I give a crap about it? not really but if we had a team... maaaaaybe....

Maybe... just maybe... there will fans like u for soccer??
I think you guys are missing the point of my original thread.
I'm not going to go on and on here.....'cause obviously all you are pretty smart....and should be able to figure out my point.
If you still don't get......
My arguement is not about soccer. It's not about me liking or disliking soccer......and my arguement would be the same if it was a new baseball stadium being built.
Wait a sec... we're wasting MY thread arguing about YOUR thread???
