I just correct people when they make comments like that.  Obviously they are ignorant, so I just correct them and don't get mad...unless they know and ask stupid questions for the sake of it.  I remember some Indian guy asked me why Spanish people like to eat beans so much, and I just started to laugh in his face.  I then asked why Indian people liked to eat curry so much, then he laughed and relized how dumb his question was.

I know I do.

If someone asks me about my background I always say CHILEAN...if the person looks like a dummy I'll say South American to keep less confusing because to an idiot Chile could be anywhere

About food yes of course I get that all the time.  Oh you are from Chile you must love hot food meanwhile my family would break into a sweat just looking at hot peppers.  Chilean food is typically not very hot at all.  Of course it would be true about me because growing up I had a lot of friends from Trinidad and Jamacia and I like my pepper sauce.

nothing against Messicans; but yeah some Canadian / USA gringos son pendejos and assume that "mexican" is a language - "Do you speak Mexican"? or...

some gringos who differiantate the language as spanish also think that because you speak it, you MUST come from Messico!

WHen I go to restaurants and server asks me if I want pepper I always say no.

Cause the bastards think I'm mexican and they may add humoungous amounts of jalapeno on it.  It happened once.

Do people assume that just because you are spanish all you eat is nachos and tortillas? Or anyother type of so called stereotypical food?

I had this a few times in the office because we have Potluck every now and then, and the first two times I participated they asked me to bring Nacho's and dip and the other time Tacos or Burritos. They wanted to know how it would taste coming from someone who is spanish.
So I'm guessing most people(white people) assume all spanish people are either or most likely Mexican.
