I totally agree.

I personally would have put Mos Def on that list too, and would have taken Kanye or Redman out.

I think the first 3 places are OK. There's always going to be discussion about that.

I like Nas alot. Asides from Tupac he's got the best lyrical content. He's well rounded and can touch on all types of topics not just party songs and gansta stuff.
I can't wait to hear his new cd on Def Jam.

mtv rating the best mc's of all time is a joke. Number one, the hip hop on mtv is waaaaay too commercial, and not even worth noting its lyrical content. Number two, it seems to me that this is more a list of the best rappers on mtv, and not in the whole hip hop game ie. rappers who spend $$$ on their videos and rappers with alot of videos. Otherwise, you would have seen names like Rakim, Big L, Jadakiss, Wu-Tang, Scarface...and the list goes on! Number three, while Jay-Z is definitely worthy of a Top 5 spot, he got number one? C'mon, I've loved Jay's music from the start, but number one, NO WAY! Hasn't anyone heard Cam'ron's dis to Jay-Z............SWAGGER JACKER.  Jay has made millions from ripping off other artists. First it was Jaz-O, his mentor, then when BIG died, it was like open season to take his place, including taking his rhymes and making them his. Don't get me wrong, he has his original stuff, which does make him one of the best of all time, but this guy has jacked so much stuff and no one knows it. That SWAGGER JACKER track is on a Big Mike cd from a couple months back, do me a favour and listen to it. It's not a song, it's about 10 minutes of song snippets showing Jay's lyrics and then the original. Judge for yourself!!!!!!!!!

this list is seriously onesided (East-sided). I can't believe ICE CUBE, ICE-T, SNOOP, LUDACRIS and others are not represented there. And since this is an all-time list how come KRS-one and Chuck-D are missing?? I can just picture a bunch or 14yr old "reggaetoneros" exclaiming "Who da fawk r they?!?!" I think I'll go dust of my "100 Miles And Running" tape..ah those good ol' days when Dre was making music instead of manufacturing ready-made pop-icons. What ever happened to those days?...oh that's right: Corporate America got involved. Which is exactly what's happening to reggaeton. Atleast we still got Tego and a few others keeping it real and if they fail us will always have our South American rappers.

Ya I agree with you on Cube and Snoop because they should be there instead of Kanye and DMX. Ludacris I like alot, but he's gotta change his content a little. Most of his albums don't offer anything new. He's a good lyricist but not a good storyteller. Great party anthems though and if he were to start talking about more real issues and not just party stuff he will be amongst the best cause he does have skills.

Stick to salsa buddy! j/k, i agree, Jay-z is good but, in my opinion, puts so many words into his rap that it seems to be off a lot of times and sounds like he's gonna trip on his own lips (pardon the racial pun). I don't find his flow smooth at all.. maybe its just me. Plus i think Common is overrated too... makes me sleepy I like the production on his stuff but his rap is almost monotone.

The best and smoothest are Tupac, Biggie, and Em.

BTW, Kanye is a great producer... get him off the list! Just cause he's current doesn't make him great!

As a rapper Dre is nowhere near that list. But he is the greatest hip hop producer of all time. No doubt about that in my opinion.

I think its cause theyre goin based on rapping ability or "flow" rather than over all performace (lyrics, delivery, etc)

I think most people agree that even though Tupac was wicked and had by far the best lyrics he wasnt necessarily the best rapper. Biggie had a much better flow but his lyrics were not as deep. I've heard Jay do his thing and I have to say based on MCing alone he is def one of the best. Having said that Biggie will always be the greatest.

WHAT ABOUT LL COOL J

I would have put Biggie as number one on my list, and then Jay in second place.  Biggie's left a huge legacy and a blue print for the new kats in the game.  Jay's also done his part in the hip hip realm, he's paved the way for new and experimental sounds.

I have to agree with Jaime on LL though... he's had success throughout the years, but he has never really put out a masterpiece album, just masterpiece songs.  He's really talented and has has longevity with his career, but I dont think that he's amongst the top 10.

I think the best way to put it is that Jay Z is the best rapper alive, but of all time I would have to say Tupac. Tupac was a good rapper, but an even greater storyteller and I think his music is more timeless than Jay Z's or even Biggies he had alot songs that talked about real issues and not just gangster crap.

Ya I definately think he should be on the list. The only problem with LL is that he has been successful and I he just came out with his 11th album, but he's mainly known for having great singles but not great albums. I really can't think of 1 of his cd's that's a classic. But yes he should be on the list.

DMX: When everyone was blinging like Puffy, he came through and changed the game. I agree with Jay-z and Tupac being at #1 and #2 although it is a tough choice. Eminem would have been #3 on my list and then Nas at #4 and Biggie at #5I don't think DMX or Kanye should be on that list although Kanye is my favorite rapper right now asides from the Game. All in all the rest deserve to be on the list.   I don't think jay-z should be #1 i think its a tie between B.I.G. and tupac for #1, and maybe jay-z and Eminem

If Biggia and Pac were alive today than I would say Pac #1 hands down.
Biggie and Jay-z would be tied for #2. I agree with Jay-z being #1 on this list because he is still alive and has had success. I personally all three and believe Eminem is underatted.
