I think the italians wave their flag harder that anybody else; eventhough some of them are third generation italian-canadians, and most guys don't speak the language.  I think they probably go to Italy on vacations and come back when they get bored since Canada is their home.  I also new a jew guy who is the most patriotic guys I've ever met, and yet, He lives here because this is his home. I also know the son of an english guy who carries anything british on him eventough he was born here.

I think we all need to keep attached to our roots, we need to identify with something. Even the newfies display the rock on their cars rear window.  Yes, I love El Salvador but I hate the politicians and the way they treat the poor;beside, I discover last year that I'm basically a stranger when I visited the places where I grew up.

And yet, deep inside I wish I could afford to live there during winter and come back to Toronto during summers

I don't blame the argentinians going back to to visit their country , those argentinian chicks are hot, jijiji

I was raised in Canada, I dont know anything else but the Latin Canadian Culture...I dont rep El Salvador because I dont know much about it so its not fair, and I dont feel 100% Salvadorian, I wasnt even born there...I only have a tie to El Salvi because both my parents and my  extended family are from El Salvador but thats as far as it goes.

Since I dont know much about El Salvador I just dont say anything...I only know PUPUSAS and Horchata...! lol they good.... Hey but I am not too white washed either I do speak spanish and know my LATIN CULTURE (which is a mixture of all the latin american cultures here in Toronto) and I consider myself a proud Latina ...      Would I marry a Salvadorian guy???..OHGHGHGH I dunno...Havent met any intriguing Salvadorian men yet and ONE THATS TALL!!!(I like tall guys)....chances are pretty slim at this point...

Even though I wasn't born there, I take great pride in the country that my parents/family were born and raised in.  Everytime I go to Colombia, there's this uncanny swelling of pride that I have in my heart.  It's a pity that it's just a little crazy there.  I've seen my share of people getting shot there and so I have no desire to move there and raise a family.  My boyfriend is the same.  When he goes there, he's good for 3 weeks MAX a month and then he wants to come back.  I could never live there.  A month there and I thought I was going to lose it.  It's a beautiful country with great weather but there's no better feeling than coming back, flying over Toronto, and realizing that this is my home.

Patriotism is a -however deep- emotional expression of nationalism. Since "nationhood" has determined so much of who I am, I see no problem with finding healthy pride in having been born where I was.

On the other hand, there´s a whole lot of stuff connected -as I was watching the baseball games with the Cuban team, my heart was pounding like crazy, and it wasn´t only whether they won or lost, it was that people in Cuba were also watching this same game, and sure they love baseball down there, and I KNEW they were all sitting on the tip of their seats.

It´s not just "la patrrrRRRRia!!!!!!". It´s who you aknowledge yourself to be.

Cuba by itself has become some sort of international political news diva, so I guess there´s something in the water

I have a few flags at home, but putting them up in the living room... dunno, I find it a bit tacky. The sort of thing a teenager might do.

Though to the foro members that do that sort of thing, I'm sure you do it in good taste! .

Patriotism is a pretty vacuous feeling when one considers the frequency with which borders have changed over human history. Are we really that different from our neighbours, when a few centuries ago we were part of the same country? Bah.

All too often patriotism is just a way for nationalistic politicians to manage mindless masses and benefit themselves, and not the majority of the population.

I left home 10 years ago or so and I am not planing to go back. Vacations and visiting friends and family but not to get established.

Never the less, I will always call it home because it is were I was born and raised. I will defend it (pero no a toda costa) but as well critisize it when necesary.

And for the flag thing, no, that will never happen, I will never have a flag hanging in my house or on my porche, it is not me.

On the other hand, people have very different ways to live out their nationality and home pride. It would be good, however, if those wearing the flag on every other ocassion would do the effort to learn some history about the country whose flag they are carrying. National pride goes so beyond a flag, most of the times.

I think that some people can be more patriotic then others, but the fact that one was born here, never been back to their homeland, or parents homeland, or the fact that they may not know much about their country does not make them any less Ecuadorian, Guatemalan, Peruvian and so on then the next man or woman.  Less patriotic yes but less Salvadorian or whatever no, because that's where they were born or their parents were born.  It's a part of who they are regardless if they want to tell the whole world or not, or whether if they like it or not.  They are who they are, and nothing can change that.

I know many Argentinos from Argentina that were not raised here that are NOT the least bit ignorant.

IM ONE OF THOSE PPL.....I WILL NOT MARRY SOMEBODY FROM ARGENTINA.... Why not?  ummm yeah why not?   @Ladybug...in some cases that's true.  There are also people like my parents who left their countries because they had to not because they wanted to.  My parents had a great life back home before all the crap went down in Chile and they would have never left if they didn't have to... CUZ NO KIERO ........ DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE MY COUNTRY TO DEATH BUT..... LET NOT GET INTO IT.......... Oh come on Confu...tell me why you would never marry an Argentino....come on...come on....I know a lot of Argentinas that same the same thing but tell me what your reasons are @Daeveed.....Chile is too big to wrap.  Too rockish to rap.  Since it's the most beautiful place on earth it's okay to rep
