The controversial Cape Breton fiddler says his recently stated desire to run for the leadership of the federal Liberal party is not just another gimmick. MacIsaac is making the media rounds today, insisting he's serious about entering the race despite his outrageous past.
He says he's aware he's courted a lot of media attention over the years, adding he's relied upon sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll to sell tickets.
But he says that's not what he has in store as he prepares to spend eight months campaigning for the Liberal leadership.
Calling himself a lifelong Liberal, MacIsaac says he's been toying with the move for a few years.
In 2003, he announced he was going to run as an independent candidate in Dartmouth but later changed his mind and withdrew.
MacIsaac, now based in Toronto, says he'd like to at least make the second ballot in the December race.
