I'm pretty sure Salsa on St Claire will one day be a bigger event than what it is right now.
I don't know if any tax money will go towards it though.

My prospective On Caribana been supported on tax payers, is the following...YES I agree...

Well if we realize lately toronto is concidered the 2nd Hollywood, its where the film industry has been taken serious, there for, it means we have more money and more tourism.

we know that Caribbana festival is tremendous, and the ammount of tourism that attract is Incredible, why Not have tax payers support it, What it does is bring more money to Toronto.

I think if any Festivals Attract Massive Tourism, most definetally I agree with Tax Payers Support Money

After All is an Excelent Event.

I would Love To See Brazil Have a Similar Event

And .............Where is the Latino Community.....................

Why dont we have a huge massive event on the Streets and have Tax payers Support it????

Its Posible to do that its Called...UNITY...!!!

And How About Where I live now

Here we only have aproximately 5000 Latin American people in the Island and There is a festival that is funded by Tax Payers

This Festival Runs for 2 straight weeks, Its Called The Latin Caribbean Festival

Bands that come here are International Bands, and the ammount of tourism that we attract is tremendous

Enter Here and see for your Self... http://www.vircs.bc.ca/latinfest.html

This Festival Has Been Around for 16 Years and the organizer is chileno Cool Ha Latinos pero buien Latinos

See Ya

CARIBANA brings tourism and money into our country especially from Americans....who believe it or not they look forward to that weekend, they plan around it and bring the whole family down, because ISLANDERS in the states don't have anything close to Caribana's fesitivies around there....

People love TROPICAL festivals, Latin festivals outdoors....because they are full of life, colourful and fun....it brings warmth into this cold country (people AND weather)....hence, all the vacations to Cuba, South America, Brazil, Dominican....etc

And lastly......besides CARIBANA what other big Toronto ethnic festivals stand out in your mind??  Chinese New Year would be the next thing, but how many of you actually know what the exact date of that is? ...or where to go to celebrate?

Do Canadians really celebrate TLN's Wonderland Latin Day?  NO

Do Canadians celebrate Persian New Year? NO

Do they even celebrate EID for Muslims? NO

And I know that Caribana isn't religious but it's still ethnic and all cultures go down to check out the parade and all the after parties....it's a Union of ISLANDERS so to speak: Trinidad, Jamaica, Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados,Haiti....etc....

Each year we get bigger Music Industry Personalities coming down and respecting what we have here...JUST because of that weekend, that has opened doors for them.....allowing them to remember our city!

The other big festivites would be the Christmas parade and Gay pride.....but how ETHNIC are those really??

Should tax payers money go towards funding Caribana? Yes why not?  I mean our money gets used for stupid things why not use it to embrace our cultures.

Do you think Toronto can live without it? Yeah it probably could, but like many have stated Caribana attracts many tourists, which brings more money into the country.

I wouldn't like to see it go, because that would mean less things to do in the tdot.  Honestly I think that it's stupid that they're even disputing this, because it's not just an event that brings in the tourists and their money, but it's an event that embraces other people's culture.  I mean the black community doesn't really have that many events that show other people a little bit about their culture and who they are, and to take it away in my opinion would be a big slap or spit in the face to them.  It would kinda be like saying your culture is not important to us, and we don't care to know anything about it, or allow you to embrace it publically.  I know that if the government were to tell the Latin community that they didn't want us to have any of the festivals that we have, we would be royally pissed...well at least I know I would. I would take it as an insult not only to me, but to where I came from, where we all came from. This is what these festivals represent.  Our cultures, our pride, our history, our achievements, integrity, and everything that represents who we are as human beings.  So to take it away would be like taking away a bit of who we are, and I'm not down for that James Brown...lol  I mean of course we would still be us, and we would still embrace our cultures on our own, but we wouldn't be able to show the rest of the world how beautiful our cultures are.

I think the municipality of Toronto should study how this will benefit Toronto,.. and how the founding will be use,. this is a great event,.. I think it might open the doors to other cultures,. to make fesitvals of this magnitude,.It is good not only for turist but for torontians,.

It isn't like Toronto is overrun with punks every Caribana... I don't see the problem. With the amount of money that comes in, more police can certainly be hired. It's a question of economics and profits. More money for Toronto hospitals and schools.

We already have two Jazz festivals and Film festival. Caribana simply caters to another kind of tourist.

What about the other 80 or so people that got killed the rest of the year? including that little white girl that got shot on Boxing day... Should we also bann boxing day? Where does the madness and finger pointing end? and more importantly, if they ban boxing day where, O where I ask you will I get slight discounts on previously marked up merchandise???

I haven't gone to it in ages, but it does bring millions of tourist dollars. The intelligent thing to do is subsidize it. We all benefit from it, ultimately.
