Rod Carew is right up there with Rose......Check these stats...

Carew was an All-Star in all but his final 1985 season and the American League Rookie of the Year in 1967. In 1972, amazingly enough, Carew led the American League in batting, without hitting a single home run. He won seven batting titles, including his best overall season, 1977 in which his .388 batting average was the highest in baseball since Ted Williams hit .406 in 1941. Though it by far was the closest anyone other than Williams had come to hitting .400 or more since the actual 1941 feat, it did not get the media attention that George Brett's attempt did 3 years later because unlike Brett's run he was "only" hitting about .350 or so most of the season until he hit a "hot streak" in September and his average started inching towards .400 during the last two weeks of the season. He also won the AL's Most Valuable Player award that year. In addition, he is one of only two players (the other being Ty Cobb) to lead Major League Baseball in batting average in three consecutive years, doing so from 1973 through 1975.

I am also trying to be aware of the fact that cuban players are going to be stressed like hell. If only they could keep the cool... īcause Iīm telling you, the Oriols had a lot to say when back from losing in Havana -after having won back home.

This is the guy that pitched against Puerto Rico today........His name is Len Picota.

He did a great job. He gave up one run....on a homerun by Alex Rios (If he only did the for the Jays....I wouldn't mind...LOL)

That was, I think, the most courageous pitcher from the team.

As for the hardest hitter, Osmani Urrutia, "The only player all over the world to overcome the 400 average barrier three seasons in a row, Urrutia threatens now the 500 mark during the 43rd Cuban National Series, which he leads with a current average of 491".

Wood bats were reintroduced in Cuba several years ago. My point is, this guy down there.... give him a bat and he goes insane.

Adiel Palma is a case at point. He dropped from active baseball after a very succesful 8 years career. Away for 5 years, he has returned and has made the national team for the last 4 years. And, for what I know, heīs the only baseball player who has openly spoken about his religious faith, even on cuban media. He credits the work of faith for his recovery from alcohol and, as he put it, "other things I donīt even want to talk about".

Brave guy. And heīs got a mean, mean screwball.
